Atlanta’s Future in Tech Think Tank

Postponement of Atlanta's Future in Tech Think Tank kick-off Meeting

Thank you for your interest in Atlanta's Future in Tech Think Tank kick-off meeting. Due to unforeseen circumstances, including personal scheduling conflicts, we have decided to postpone this kick-off meeting until the second week of September. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience and expect communication regarding the new date and time later this summer.

Atlanta’s Future in Tech Think Tank (AFIT) aims to identify strategies  for the City of Atlanta to become a national example of innovation and economic power while also sustaining human dignity and justice. The initiative launched following the inaugural meeting of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce’s Technology Executive Roundtable which took place in the fall of 2022.

Work done so far: AFIT has formed a working group with representatives from the City of Atlanta; the Atlanta Committee for Progress (ACP); the Metro Atlanta Chamber; the Center for Urban Research at the Georgia Institute of Technology; the Bagwell College of Education and the Interactive Research Methods Lab at Kennesaw State University; Microsoft, and; Google. This body has focused on the City of Atlanta’s existing computing educational ecosystem and discussed ways for tech companies in Atlanta to  support and strengthen the ecosystem to promote a radical departure from the polarized racial outcomes happening in major tech-driven urban centers.

Goal: The goal of Atlanta’s Future in Tech think tank is to identify strategies for the community of tech companies, and educational and civic institutions to work together to improve the computing educational ecosystem in Atlanta. While the initiative will focus on the computing education ecosystem initially, AFIT believes this work has the potential to create ripple effects that influence all aspects of life in the City of Atlanta.

The driving question of the initiative is: Can Atlanta be a city with a robust tech-driven economy, and also be a city that is racial just and socially sustainable?

Outcomes: Following a research-based approach, the initiative aims to produce a white paper with an action plan and recommendations for tech companies arriving in our city.
