This full-day workshop will start with a keynote followed by regular research paper presentations for all four sessions. There will also be a poster session and CL-Aff Shared Task session. We will end the workshop with a fishbowl-style discussion among the organizers, keynote speakers and the participants to decide on further directions and enhancements to the workshop.

  • Beyond Detection and Computation of Affect: Interpretation and Decision, Atanu Sinha
  • Abstract: Reliable detection and valid computation of affect are important, and the workshop rightly emphasizes these areas. This talk is about (i) extension of affect to interpretations and to decisions, in an (ii) interactive setting. Affect is subject to interpretation based on several factors and impacts decisions in different spheres. Interaction between two actors makes interpretation challenging. In this talk we examine facial expression in an interactive setting. Since facial expression can convey more than emotion, its impact on outcome of economic interaction is not obvious. Two human studies situated in negotiations try to understand whether and how facial expression and its change may impact decision about offers.
