If you want a purpose-built, high-clearance lifting solution for your 37-inch tires on a Jeep JL or Gladiator, choose AEV JL Wrangler/Gladiator Spare; if you need a simple, direct-fit replacement carrier for a Nissan Frontier, Pathfinder, or Xterra, choose ApplianPar Spare Tire Carrier. This is not a contest of value versus luxury; it is a strict comparison of two tools designed for entirely different vehicles and specific mechanical needs. I have seen too many pet owners try to force a universal part onto the wrong chassis, only to end up with a wobbly setup that rattles during off-road trips with their dogs. The reality is that these two products serve distinct ecosystems, and picking the wrong one leaves you stranded or stuck with an ill-fitting accessory that compromises safety.
• AEV JL Wrangler/Gladiator Spare: Its biggest strength is providing 3.5 inches of lift height to accommodate massive 37-inch tires using the factory scissor jack; its trade-off is that it is exclusively for 2018–2025 Jeep JL and Gladiator models.
• ApplianPar Spare Tire Carrier: Its biggest strength is being a direct-fit replacement for Nissan trucks and SUVs from 2005 to 2021; its trade-off is that it offers no lift capability or tire size expansion beyond stock dimensions.
• Pick the AEV if you are modifying a Jeep for serious off-roading and need to clear larger tires without changing the jack itself.
• Pick the ApplianPar if you simply need to replace a broken or missing spare tire hanger on a Nissan and nothing more.
The AEV JL Wrangler/Gladiator Spare Jack Base Booster is engineered for a very specific problem: the stock scissor jack in modern Jeeps simply cannot reach high enough to lift the vehicle when you install oversized tires. If you run 37-inch rubber, which is standard for serious trail rigs, the factory jack hits its limit long before the tire clears the ground. This unit solves that by dropping into the rear floor compartment and adding 3.5 inches of vertical lift. It transforms a tool that barely works with stock tires into one that can handle significant overland modifications. The design ensures stability and ease of use where the original equipment fails.
This product is built strictly for the 2018 through 2025 Wrangler JL and the 2020 through 2025 Gladiator. It does not fit older JK models, nor does it work on any other brand of truck or SUV. If you own one of these Jeeps and plan to run large tires, this is the necessary foundation for your recovery gear. The yellow finish is a nod to the rugged aesthetic common in expedition vehicles, and the weight of roughly three pounds means it adds negligible load to the rear floor while providing critical mechanical advantage. It is a specialized piece of hardware for a specialized job.

You should skip this item if you drive a Nissan, a Toyota, a Ford, or any vehicle outside the specified Jeep model years. It will not bolt in, it will not function, and attempting to adapt it would be a waste of money and time. Similarly, if you are running stock tire sizes (usually 33 inches or smaller), you likely do not need the extra 3.5 inches of lift, though the added clearance never hurts. However, for those who prioritize getting out of mud or sand with heavy gear, including dog crates and camping supplies, the ability to change a flat tire on uneven ground with a lifted vehicle is non-negotiable.
The ApplianPar Spare Tire Carrier is a straightforward replacement part designed to restore functionality to the rear suspension of specific Nissan vehicles. Unlike the AEV booster which adds new capabilities, this component is about maintaining existing ones. It fits the Nissan Frontier (2005–2021), Pathfinder (2005–2012), and Xterra (2005–2015). If your current carrier is rusted, bent, or has snapped completely, this unit provides the structural support needed to hold your spare tire securely in place. It is a "drop-in" solution intended to bring the vehicle back to its factory configuration.
This product is ideal for owners of these Nissan models who need a reliable way to secure their spare tire without purchasing a whole new assembly or dealing with complex fabrication. The package includes exactly one spare tire carrier, keeping things simple and focused on the immediate repair need. It does not offer additional lift, nor does it claim to handle larger wheel sizes than the vehicle was originally designed for. Its value lies in its specificity; it is made to match the mounting points and geometry of these particular Nissan platforms.
You should look elsewhere if you own a Jeep, a Ram, a Chevy, or any vehicle not listed in the compatibility range. This carrier will not fit a Jeep JL, nor will it work on a newer Nissan Frontier outside the 2021 cutoff. It is also not a performance upgrade. If you are looking to add a winch mount, a light bar bracket, or a bike rack to your spare tire setup, this basic carrier likely lacks the reinforcement or mounting options for such accessories. It is purely for holding a tire. For the daily driver or the weekend warrior who just needs their spare secured safely, this is a practical, no-frills fix.

I would buy the AEV JL Wrangler/Gladiator Spare if I owned a modified Jeep, because the engineering behind the 3.5-inch lift is critical for anyone running large tires. Without it, changing a flat becomes a dangerous struggle. However, for the average family or pet owner who drives a Nissan and just needs a secure place for a spare, the ApplianPar Spare Tire Carrier is the sensible choice. It does exactly what it promises without overcomplicating the rear end of the truck. If you are a pet owner carrying heavy loads, the AEV gives you the confidence to tackle rougher trails, while the ApplianPar ensures your backup tire stays put on the highway. In my opinion, choosing the right one depends entirely on whether you are building a rig or fixing a sedan-like truck.
Yes, the AEV JL Wrangler/Gladiator Spare fits and functions with stock tires, but the primary benefit is realized only when lifting the vehicle for larger tires like 35 or 37 inches.
Absolutely, the 3.5-inch lift is specifically calculated to allow the factory scissor jack to clear tires up to 37 inches, making it ideal for full-size spares on lifted Jeeps.
The product description lists it as a direct replacement carrier for stock setups; it does not specify heavy-duty reinforcements for extreme off-road impacts.
