What Substance do Scar fillers have?

Scar fillers contain a natural substance called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that naturally appears in the body. This acid is a natural substance located in the dermis, the middle layer of the skin. It attracts water and helps to increase the volume of the skin, making the skin's appearance look younger. However, as time goes on, and one begins to grow old, the acid as well as the collagen and elastin decreases and hence, the skin ages, loses elasticity and becomes dry.

What happens during the procedure?

While undergoing the procedure, the doctor will mark injection points on the skin areas which need treatment before cleansing those skin areas with an antibacterial agent.

To reduce pain during the injections and keep you comfortable, the doctor will apply a topical numbing agent such as ice or local anesthesia on those skin areas. The filler is a form of hyaluronic acid injected with a small needle. As the doctor injects the substance into your skin, you may experience stinging or burning. How long does the treatment last?

All scar fillers are temporary treatments lasting for a period of six months to two years, depending on the type of filler used. Some patients may have to undergo maintenance treatments to achieve the desired goal.
