Having Venetian blinds at home can be really helpful. Most households in Singapore have Venetian blinds at home, too. They block us from the sun, and also help in securing our privacy when inside the house. However, most of us have hectic schedules like here in Singapore, that we don’t really have time for everything -- cleaning our blinds is one of those.
But don’t fret, as we are here to share with you some tips on how to easily clean and take care of your Venetian blinds. And we promise that you don’t have to clean your blinds slat by slat. We will focus on Venetian blinds for now, but stay tuned as we will also share some tips and info on cleaning other types of blinds like wooden blinds, roller blinds, Korean blinds, etc.
One good thing about cleaning your Venetian blinds is that the cleaning materials you will need are readily available at home. So no need to make that extra trip outside to buy what you’ll need. Before we proceed, below are some tips on how you can get ready to clean your blinds:
Schedule a day for cleaning. It will be best to do it together with other cleaning chores at home.
Have your cleaning materials ready. This is so you won’t waste time going back and forth when you need something for the cleaning.
Get your cleaning clothes on. You wouldn’t want your favorite shirt accidentally be splashed with cleaning agents right?
Vacuum cleaner with soft brush attachment
Microfiber cloths
Dishwashing liquid
Warm water
Baking soda
Close the blinds
Wooden Venetian blinds can be closed completely while binds made of vinyl or plastic which overlap onto each other can just be tilted down but not fully closed. This is so you wouldn’t have to go to them slat by slat.
Start by dusting them
Remove excess dirts and dust by using a microfiber cloth or your vacuum cleaner with soft brush attachments. Work from the top going to the bottom so your cloth or vacuum won’t get tangled or be trapped in between the slats of your blinds.
Do the same on the other side
After you finish the first side, flip the blinds and do the same thing you did in the previous step.
Wipe them wet
After removing the excess dust from your Venetian blinds, dissolve some dishwashing liquid in water and wet another microfiber cloth with it. Wring excess water and wipe them over both sides of the blinds.
Wipe those blinds dry
After wiping them with soaped cloth, it’s now time to wipe them dry to remove the remaining dust and dirt.
Open the blinds
Open your Venetian blinds to let them dry completely.
Additional Tips
Schedule cleaning regularly
Well-kept blinds will serve you for a longer period of time
Use old socks or clothes
If you don’t have microfiber clothes available, old socks or clothes can do the same work!
Use stain removers only if necessary
If there are tough to remove stains from your blinds, you can use stain removers from the stain spot.
Cleaning your blinds is easy. Just make sure that you allot time cleaning them, as dust can cause allergic reactions to members of your household.
