In the Fall of 2024, the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) launched a study of the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) industry, which included a review of available data published by government agencies, associations, and other publications and a survey of over 1000 FCS professionals working in FCS and other industries. The study was conducted in partnership with Geostrategy Partners (GSP).
Measuring the size and economic impact of Family and Consumer Sciences is challenging because FCS is not classified as a distinct industry sector but rather as a multi-disciplinary field spanning various industries. The study aimed to conduct research and analysis to map out the occupations and industries that employ FCS professionals and to determine the scale and economic impact of the field.
