Love, the rose, is on the way...
Rev. Emelia Attridge
Christ said, "I have come so that you may have life, and have it abundantly" (John 10:10). "Abundant life" to me is when something is not just surviving, it is thriving.
Recently there was an article circulating online about the poverty line in America, how it was determined originally, and how it should be adjusted for our time today. The line, in general, is set at a minimum of need.
What would it look like, in our world of scarcity, for us to have abundant life? For us to thrive, and not just meet the minimum? The reality is in America today (especially in our greater Boston area) there are more people than ever struggling to afford groceries, housing, utilities.
As I wonder what will flourish in this Advent season, I pray for abundant and thriving life for each of us.
God of today, yesterday, and tomorrow,
You who sent us your Son to be Living Water,
we pray for peace, justice, and an end to oppression this Advent.
We pray for abundance, not just meeting the minimum; thriving, not just surviving.
For all who are feeling like they are only hanging on these days, we pray: God have mercy, Christ have mercy.
Amen.
