Tamar Haddad
Tamar Haddad (she/her) is the author of The Future of Palestine: How Discrimination Hinders Change. She was hugely impacted by her involvement in many phenomenal leadership programs like MEPI - Student Leaders Program, International Women Leaders of the ELCA, and Clinton Global Initiative University. This led her to start her non-profit, Yalla - Palestinian Student Leaders that develops the leadership skills of up to twenty Palestinian undergraduates every summer in American and Palestinian academic institutions. Yalla also helps the students design and implement their projects that have a positive impact on the Palestinian community. Haddad raises awareness about Palestine through her participation in many events and webinars. In 2021, she was a panelist at the United Nation’s Commission on the Status of Women
Isabelle El-Yateem
Isabelle El-Yateem (she/her) is 18 years old, currently enrolled as a biology major at the University of Central Florida and aspires to be a surgeon. She is a Palestinian-American who was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Isabelle has always attended ELCA churches as her father was the pastor of Salam (Peace) Arabic Lutheran Church, and he now serves as Assistant Bishop in the Florida-Bahama synod. Isabelle has attended several youth events, led discussions, and participated in church council and music ministry. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, traveling, singing, and playing the piano!
Maddi Froiland
Maddi Froiland (she/her) is from Milwaukee Wisconsin. She is the daughter of Reverend Doctor Lisa Bates-Froiland, who serves as pastor to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, and she grew up in the Lutheran church. She studied at St. Olaf College in Northfield Minnesota, where she majored in Environmental Studies with a minor in Women's and Gender Studies. After graduating, she served as a Young Adult in Global Mission in Jerusalem and the West Bank in 2019-2020. She currently works in Jerusalem as the Communication Officer for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. There are so many things she loves about living in Palestine, the top of the list includes the wonderful people with whom she gets to spend her time. In her free time, she studies Arabic, spends time with friends, and eats lots of manakeesh!
Hala Tannous
Hala B. Tannous (she/her) is an active member of the Lutheran community in Palestine (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land). She has been married to Elias David Tannous for 27 years and is a mother of three young adults. She works at UNESCO in Ramallah since 2005 as the Communication Officer, supporting programs related to Freedom of Expression, Gender and Youth in Media. Hala is the first-ever woman elected to the ELCJHL Church Council and she is managing the “Meals on Wheels” program, a program that has been carried out in Ramallah for over 30 years. The Meals on Wheels program is a supportive one for the community dedicated to addressing senior isolation and hunger. This program voluntarily serves a number of elderly people by delivering nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks that enables seniors to live nourished lives with independence and dignity.
