Sean McDowell serves as the Director of the Church Evangelism Institute at the Wheaton College Billy Graham Center, where he mobilizes pastors and churches toward greater gospel impact. In this role, he has launched national coaching cohorts with networks like Converge and the Christian & Missionary Alliance, equipping leaders to strengthen disciple-making and ministry effectiveness.
In February 2026, Sean also began serving as Church Planting and Leadership Development Director for the EFCA North Central District, focusing on starting and strengthening churches to advance the gospel across Minnesota. He will split his time between both organizations through June 2026, at which point he will transition fully into his EFCA district role.
With more than 30 years of pastoral and executive leadership experience, Sean has served in a variety of roles, including student ministries, family ministries, young adult ministries, guest ministries, executive pastor and teaching pastor. During his long tenure at Constance Free Church in Andover, MN, he helped the church grow in evangelism, mobilize leaders, launch disciple-making pathways, and build sustainable ministry systems to serve both the congregation and the wider community.
Known for his catalytic thinking, relational leadership, and deep love for Christ and His Church, Sean has a passion for raising up leaders, strengthening pastors, and helping the Church show and share the love of Jesus in their communities. He is a coach, speaker, and resource to leaders navigating seasons of opportunity and change.
Sean holds an M.A. in Theological Studies from Wheaton College Graduate School and a B.A. in Christian Ministry from Trinity International University. He is ordained in the Evangelical Free Church of America. Sean and his wife, Heidi, live in Andover, MN, with their two children.
