## Frequently Asked Questions
### General
**Q: What is Advanced IP Scanner?**
A: Advanced IP Scanner is a network discovery and diagnostic tool for developers, IT professionals, and hobbyists. It lets you scan your local network for devices, view detailed IP and connection info, see your connected Wi‑Fi details, and ping hosts to check connectivity—all from your phone or tablet.
**Q: What platforms does the app support?**
A: The app runs on iOS and Android. Some features (such as Wi‑Fi Analyzer) are available on mobile only.
### IP Scan
**Q: How do I scan my network for devices?**
A: Open the **IP Scan** tab, tap **Refresh** on the Current Network card to detect your subnet, then tap **Start Scan**. The app will scan your local network and list devices that respond. You can choose **Entire Subnet** (scans .1–.254) or **Custom Range** (enter Start IP and End IP).
**Q: Why does the scan show "Get network info first"?**
A: The app needs your current network details (IP and subnet) to know what range to scan. Tap **Refresh** on the Current Network card while connected to Wi‑Fi. If it still fails, ensure Location/Wi‑Fi permissions are granted.
**Q: Why am I not finding all devices?**
A: The scanner uses ICMP (ping) to detect devices. Some devices block ICMP or may be offline. Firewalls, VPNs, or network segmentation can also limit visibility. Try a **Custom Range** if your network uses a non‑standard subnet.
**Q: How do I copy an IP address?**
A: Long‑press a device in the results list to copy its IP to the clipboard.
**Q: What does the search box do?**
A: Use it to filter scan results by IP address or hostname.
### IP Info
**Q: What does the IP Info tab show?**
A: It shows two sections: **Connection** (your local network: SSID, Local IP, Gateway, DNS, etc.) and **Public IP** (your public IP, ISP, location, timezone, and related details as seen from the internet).
**Q: How do I refresh the connection info?**
A: Tap the refresh icon on the Connection card to update local network details. Tap the refresh icon on the Public IP card to update public IP and geolocation data.
**Q: Why does Public IP show "—" or fail to load?**
A: The app fetches public IP info from an external service. If you have no internet connection, a firewall blocks the request, or the service is temporarily unavailable, the data may not load. Try again later or check your connection.
### Wi‑Fi Analyzer
**Q: What does the Wi‑Fi tab show?**
A: The Wi‑Fi tab shows your **connected Wi‑Fi network** details: SSID, BSSID, Local IP, Gateway, and Subnet Mask. Pull down to refresh or tap the refresh icon to update the connection info.
**Q: What information does the connected network show?**
A: Each entry shows SSID (network name), BSSID (MAC address), Local IP, Gateway, and Subnet Mask.
**Q: Why does it say "Wi‑Fi scan is supported on Android and iOS only"?**
A: The Wi‑Fi Analyzer uses platform APIs that exist only on mobile. It is not available on web or desktop builds.
**Q: Why does it say "Not connected to Wi‑Fi"?**
A: Ensure you are connected to a Wi‑Fi network. The app needs Wi‑Fi and Location permissions to read your connection details. Grant permissions when prompted, then pull down to refresh.
### Ping
**Q: How do I ping a host?**
A: Open the **Ping** tab, enter a hostname (e.g. `google.com`) or IP (e.g. `8.8.8.8`), set the **Count** (1–100), and tap **Ping**.
**Q: Why does ping fail?**
A: The host might be down, unreachable, or blocking ICMP. Some networks block ping. Try a different host (e.g. `8.8.8.8`) to test your connection.
**Q: What does "Count" mean?**
A: It's the number of ping packets to send. Default is 4.
### Troubleshooting
**Q: The app shows an error when I try to scan or refresh.**
A: Check that Location and Wi‑Fi permissions are granted. On Android, some features require "Precise" or "Approximate" location. Restart the app and try again.
**Q: Can I use the app in the background?**
A: Network scans and Wi‑Fi analysis work best when the app is in the foreground. Keep the app open for reliable results.
**Q: How do I switch between light and dark mode?**
A: Tap the sun/moon icon in the top‑right of the app bar.
