About the Session
Join us to learn more about storage solutions for HPC and AI applications. We will begin with an overview of file systems vs. object storage, then present details on Google Cloud's high performance offerings: Managed Lustre and Cloud Storage. We will highlight their features, performance characteristics, and applications advantages, and close with guidance on when to use each.

Sean Derrington
Group PM, Storage, Google
Sean is Group Product Manager, Storage at Google Cloud and works across the block, file, and object storage solutions. He focuses on AI and storage infrastructure, HPC, and enterprise applications utilizing Cloud Storage, Managed Lustre, Filestore, Hyperdisk, and NetApp Volumes.
Sean joined Google Cloud with 25+ years of storage experience. Prior to Google, he was Sr. Director, PM at Exablox/StorageCraft and held multiple PM/PMM roles at Veritas/Symantec. He holds two B.S. degrees including Material Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
Barak Epstein
High Performance Parallel File Systems, Google
Barak leads next-gen Parallel Filesystems at Google Cloud, with a focus on ensuring that AI workloads are efficiently supported in the cloud. Barak has led the launch of 1st part and 3rd party solutions in this space, and currently focuses on technology alignment to increasingly capable compute platforms as well as developing a more seamless customer onboarding experience for AI customers at Google Cloud. Barak has led product development/introduction and portfolio strategy efforts, across Google and Dell EMC, and across the on-prem and cloud domains. He holds an MBA from Rutgers University, an M.Ed. and a B. A. from The George Washington University, a data mining certificate from Texas A&M, and is a Google Cloud Certified Cloud Architect. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and three daughters.
