The Mh1 or Modular bionic hand model 1, is a modular bionic arm platform utilizing a socket to fit on modular attachments to perform different tasks and functions. The Mh1's simplicity is also meant to both reduce costs, maintenance, and aid in ease of use.

The Mh1 is our idea of a practical, yet simple in principle bionic hand that can perform many different tasks without requiring a complex hand mechanism, it utilizes a locking mechanism on the end to fit a variety of attachments, such as a phone holder, three-fingered gripper, and even a pen holder. The idea of modularity is to both simplify and reduce the cost of the arm. The attachments can be tailored to fit one's lifestyle, hobbies, and even their jobs.
One of the key ideas in the original concept was to have the rounded cosmetic side panels, that almost flow over the internal mechanisms and frame, fold out like a blooming flower to expose the internal mechanisms. Even if this was not the most useful or practical idea, it sounded awesome on paper, so we decided to make it a part of the design. Then, another challenge was to find a way to lock them in the closed and opened position. (closed the position you see on the graphic on the right) a couple of locking mechanisms were proposed, but they would be just too complex, so we came up with the idea to use flexible metal wire that would bend fairly easily, but still retain its position when it was not moved. This wire would be mounted to the frame of the gear mechanisms that allowed both panels to open simultaneously, and would bend with the movement of the panels, and would also help the panels retain their position opened and closed.
As with all of our designs, the Mh1 went through many design iterations, and since we were designing completely from scratch, from the ground up, there were a lot of things we improved, and can still improve, the three major design iterations of the internal mechanics (shown in the graphic, left) really helps visualize our goal of making it more compact and simple, witch was definitely helpful, especially when making 3D printed designs. In the end, the biggest challenge in the design is the opening side panels, going from 3 with a worm gear-like slider to 2, and then 2 with simple gears turning in the opposite direction.
The first series of attachments we designed for the Mh1 are built to simplify the process of doing things that a conventional bionic hand might find difficult, while retaining the same functionality even in a simple design. We are proud to introduce the first series of attachments for the Mh1, these passive attachments are the basis for what will eventually become a complete and complex system of many attachments for the Mh1 that can perform any task. Series one of attachments consists of five passive attachments with intention to perform simple tasks. The attachments range from a simple hook, to an experimental accessory that can be used for operating a computer mouse
The first series of attachments, shown in the graphic below, are meant to perform slightly different tasks while still being passive and simple with no mechanical moving parts. The first attachment, the hemispheric hook (1) is meant to push and pull objects, such as lightspitches. The attachment to the right, the simple hook (2) is designed to be able to both push and pull objects, as well as pick things up, most likely the most practical and versatile attachment in series one. In the middle, the experimental mouse operation device (Mo1), (3), is an experimental device that would make a user able to slide a computer mouse, as well as click left and right using only the movement of his arm, by way of a special design. The Mo1 attachment is only a prototype, and despite its drawbacks, such as the different sizes of computer mice and the ability to scroll, it remains a unique concept.
