Course Description
This course offers students opportunities to deploy and apply lean principles, concepts and methods locally—within a work cell, work group or value stream. The course focuses on workshop and project implementation of specific lean concepts and techniques, and the qualities and habits that characterize a culture of continuous quality improvement.
Course Learning Outcomes:
Define general quality control concepts such as Six Sigma, Total Quality Management, and the ISO 9000 Standards Series, and explain how these have led to the development and spread of today’s Lean production systems.
Define and describe principles and processes of Lean production within work cells or work groups.
Discuss and implement techniques and practices of lean production within work cells or work groups.
Define and describe the basic principles and philosophies of continuous improvement within work cells or work groups.
Discuss and apply the lean cultural approach to continuous improvement for systems and techniques/tools within work cells or work groups.
Describe the processes or systems for developing and maintaining standardization within work cells or work groups.
Describe and apply the techniques, practices, and tools for developing and maintaining standardization within work cells or work groups.
Describe and apply key lean measurement systems.
