Welcome to AdShield for JioHotstar — Video Ad Blocker ("AdShield", "we", "us", or "our"). We are committed to protecting your personal privacy. This Privacy Policy details how the AdShield browser extension operates, the strict limitations on data collection, and our adherence to privacy standards.
AdShield is built with a "Privacy-by-Design" philosophy. The extension operates entirely on your local device, runs without remote servers, and does not collect, store, sell, or transmit any personal user data.
In accordance with Google Chrome Web Store policies, AdShield for JioHotstar has a single, narrow, and clear purpose:
To block intrusive video advertisements, sponsored banners, and promotional overlays on the JioHotstar streaming platform, providing users with a seamless and uninterrupted viewing experience.
We believe that your browsing activity is your private business. AdShield does NOT collect any data from you. Specifically:
No Personally Identifiable Information (PII): We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, ages, gender, or physical addresses.
No Browsing History or Web Activity: We do not track the URLs you visit, the movies or shows you watch, your search queries, your viewing duration, mouse movements, or keystrokes.
No Network Traffic Inspection: We do not read, record, or intercept your personal web traffic, login credentials, passwords, or authentication tokens.
No Financial Information: We do not process, collect, or store payment details, bank accounts, or credit card numbers.
No IP Addresses or Device Fingerprinting: We do not capture your IP address, geolocation data, MAC address, or hardware identifiers.
No Third-Party Analytics: We do not embed Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or any tracking SDKs within the extension.
The extension only handles minimal technical configuration data, which never leaves your computer:
User Settings: Your toggle preference (Protection Enabled / Disabled).
Ad-Block Statistics: A local numerical counter indicating how many advertisements and tracker requests have been filtered during your streaming session.
Both data points are stored locally inside your browser using the official chrome.storage.local API. They are never transmitted over the internet and are immediately deleted when you click "Reset Stats" in the extension popup or when you uninstall the extension.
AdShield strictly requests the minimum necessary permissions required to fulfill its single purpose:
Permission
Technical Justification
declarativeNetRequest
Used to block outgoing network connections to known third-party ad networks, telemetry trackers, and video ad servers on JioHotstar using local rule lists. This filtering happens directly within the browser engine without inspecting private data.
storage
Used solely to save your on/off protection preference and cumulative ad-blocking counter locally on your device via chrome.storage.local.
Host Permissions (*.jiohotstar.com/*, *.hotstar.com/*, *.jiocinema.com/*)
Strictly limited to the supported video streaming domains to inject local content scripts that prune ad cue metadata and safeguard on-hover player controls (+10s, -10s, play/pause). The extension has zero access to any other website you visit.
AdShield contains 100% locally bundled code within the extension package. In strict compliance with Manifest V3 policies:
We do not load external scripts via CDN or third-party servers.
We do not use eval() or dynamically loaded WebAssembly.
All filtering rule lists and content scripts are packaged directly in the installation file.
We do NOT sell, rent, monetize, or trade any user data to third parties.
We do NOT transfer data to data brokers, advertising agencies, or marketing companies.
We do NOT use data for creditworthiness or lending purposes.
AdShield does not knowingly collect or solicit any personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under the age of 16 in the European Union). Because no personal information is collected at any time, AdShield fully complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
You maintain complete control over AdShield:
You can disable ad blocking at any time with a single click using the toggle switch inside the extension popup.
You can clear all local statistics by clicking the "Reset Stats" button.
If you uninstall AdShield from Chrome (chrome://extensions), all stored settings are permanently removed from your computer immediately.
Because AdShield does not operate external databases, cloud servers, or remote APIs, there is no centralized database vulnerable to data breaches or cyberattacks. All operations execute within Chrome's sandboxed extension environment.
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in legal requirements or extension updates. When changes are made, the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
