A Drinking Game NYC (est. 2014) is a comedy troupe that lovingly reenacts iconic films as live theatrical productions with a twist: the performances are also drinking games! Every time a buzz word is spoken, the narrator dings a bell and everyone drinks their beverage of choice, actors and audience alike.
The performers juggle scripts, homemade props and costumes, beers, and mishaps with as much gusto as they can throughout the night, a nostalgia lovefest and laughfest for all movie-lovers to enjoy.
Depends on what you mean by party. If you mean a good time, yes. If you mean a rager, no. Here at A Drinking Game, we pride ourselves for producing PAT— that's short for Professional Ass Theater. We are all dedicated actors and comedians putting on a true theatrical presentation—just with occasional drinking encouraged.
Of course you can! While we do play a drinking game during the performance, audience participation is entirely up to choice. You can drink water or soda along with us, or nothing at all! What matters most is you have fun.
This is a live, parody, re-enactment of the movie you know and love. We just bring it to life on the stage.
For the things we cannot execute on stage (like, say, flying the DeLorean), we rely on our helpful narrators and our imaginations!
That's totally ok! While we do perform fan-favorites, prior knowledge of the film is absolutely not required to have a wonderful time.
That being said, it's always a little more special when you recognize if an actor has matched a character's cadence perfectly, or that our props mistress Meghan has perfectly recreated the Jumanji board game out of a cardboard box.
The first step is crucial: buy your ticket and come to the show! Once you're there, it's easy—grab a drink from the bar, and when the show begins, our narrator will guide you through the rules. Each performance has unique words or drinking rules specific to the show.
When those key words or rules are said or done by the actors, the narrator will hit a bell (the 'dinger'), and that's your cue to drink! Remember, participation is not mandatory, but having a good time is!
(As an example, The Parent Trap drinking words included 'Mom' and 'Dad,' which you can imagine are said quite a bit in the script!)
By the way, our performers are playing too—and they have extra rules to make it extra fun!
The Bell House venue has roughly 100 available seats. Shows typically oversell, which means that only the first 100 who enter are "guaranteed" a seat. Doors usually open one half-hour before the show begins, although folks begin lining up for entrance as early as one hour before show time.
However, there is plenty of standing room, and no matter where you're located at The Bell House, there's always a good view of the stage.
This depends almost entirely on the length of the film we're spoofing—that being said, even Titanic (which we have performed twice) has been cut for length. Shows that start at 8 PM tend to end around 10:30 - 11:00 PM. The bar is open after as well, with occasional DJs on site to help you celebrate the evening with the cast and crew of the show.
Most of our shows are at The Bell House in Gowanus, Brooklyn. If you have an accessibility request, The Bell House asks you to email them at thebellhouse@livenation.com prior to the show.
The only expectation we have for our audience is to have a good time! You're not required to drink, and you won't be called on stage. If you know the show, you are very welcome to quote along with the actors when your favorite line happens. Otherwise, just sit back, laugh, and enjoy!
Yay! We're so happy to hear that! Please follow the steps outlined in our audition form here.
Occasionally, we open our suggestion box before/after a show and during intermission, allowing our audience a chance to suggest a favorite film. Be sure to attend for a chance to input your ideas!
