I'm Adrianna (she/they), a media scholar, game designer, and teacher, graduating with a Ph.D. in Informatics in spring 2027. I research playful infrastructures of privilege; that is, intersectional positionalities and politics in popular culture, new media, and fandom.Â
My work sits at the nexus of many fields: media studies, communication studies, gender and sexuality studies, and critical race studies. Whether analog or video game, live play show, or even television, my research in media studies synthesizes interdisciplinary literature to critically interrogate networks of privilege and offer strategies for repair. My dissertation investigates tabletop roleplaying games as liberatory devices, broken infrastructure, and political playgrounds.
I have been published across venues such as Game Studies, Journal of Cinema and Media Studies, and Analog Game Studies. I am also a copyeditor at the Journal of Games Criticism and Communications Officer for the Executive Committee of the Canadian Game Studies Association.
