Adrian Alter

I am a senior economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In my ten years at the Fund, I have applied a broad spectrum of policies and procedures to a wide range of countries, exercised sound policy judgement, and had extensive engagements with country authorities. Since joining the Fund as part of the Economist Program, I have participated in various country assignments including Serbia's program reviews (2019-20), Canada's 2019 Financial Sector Assessment Program, and Singapore's 2018 Article IV. Most recently, I was part of the negotiation team for Tunisia's EFF program request (2021-23). On the policy side, I have led analytical work for several flagship publications such as the Global Financial Stability Report and Regional Economic Outlooks, supervised small teams and provided guidance to research assistants and junior economists. Prior to joining the IMF, I held several research fellowship and internship positions at the European Central Bank, Deutsche Bundesbank, and UBS Investment Bank.

I hold a PhD in economics from the University of Konstanz (Germany), a Master's degree in finance from HEC Lausanne (Switzerland), and attended the 2016 Program on Financial Stability at the Yale School of Management (SOM). My research agenda includes macro-financial topics such as monetary and macroprudential policies, corporate finance, real estate markets, and the bank-sovereign nexus
