Senior Economist (2023/08 – ) - African Department (AFR)
Craft and lead policy-oriented research on cross-cutting issues concerning sub-Saharan Africa. Participate in the development of Fund-wide policy relevant to low-income countries; lead work on regional issues, including producing the biannual Regional Economic Outlook (REO) for sub-Saharan Africa; participate in outreach for the REO; and conduct analysis on cross-country issues of importance to AFR’s country teams and management.
Desk Economist (2021/01 – 2023/07) – Tunisia – Middle East and Central Asia Department (MCD):
Co-led the desk work and coordinated the macroframework; directly covered real and external sectors, including forecasting growth and inflation dynamics, analyzing debt sustainability and exchange rate pass-through to inflation; drafted contributions to various policy documents such as policy notes and selected issues papers in the areas of my responsibility; closely involved in the negotiation process for a 4-year EFF program request which culminated with a staff-level agreement in October 2022; led an analytical chapter of the departmental paper on informality in North Africa; contributed to an analytical chapter on macro-financial risks published in 2023 October REO for MENA & Central Asia.
Financial Economist (2016/09 – 2020/12) – Monetary and Capital Markets Department (MCM):
Strategy Unit: responsible for monetary and financial sector issues under the program review for the Republic of Serbia (2019-2020); in charge of systemic risk oversight, macroprudential policies, household debt and housing imbalances for the 2019 Canada Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP).
Global Stability: contributed to several analytical chapters of the Global Financial Stability Review (GFSR); led the analytical work of the GFSR chapter on the synchronicity of global housing cycles; covered macro-financial issues for the 2018 Singapore Article IV, including housing market imbalances, macroprudential policies, and FinTech developments; participated in a recruitment mission for the Economist Program (EP).
Economist Program (2013/09 – 2016/08): desk economist in AFR/C2 & financial economist in MCM/GS; participation in 2016 Russian Federation FSAP as part of the bank stress testing team.
Financial Stability Surveillance Department (DG-F) – contributed to the Financial Stability Review - Dec 2012, Surveillance Notes, European Banking Union - the supervision task force. Coauthored a research paper which was subsequently published in Journal of Banking and Finance and received more than 250 citations including from Vitor Constancio, the Vice President of the ECB.
Banking Supervision Department – analyzed interbank interlinkages, systemic risk, and bank capital requirements from a network perspective, using the detailed German Credit Register for large exposures. Coauthored a research paper which was published in International Journal of Central Banking.
