"In my current work I am telling a story of Metamorphosis. I work with combining aspects of different plants and animals onto one being, thus creating a painting more concerned with the soul beneath than with logic or reason. By morphing together different animals I am showing a connection between all beings while also using it as a metaphor for taking something once foreign and integrating it. This can be interpreted as a physical, mental, or spiritual change, a Metamorphosis. I encourage viewers to examine their own relationship to nature in modern-day society, and rebuild the bonds they have to it using imagery that invokes the instincts such as: motherly protection, survival, need for shelter etc.
Of the animals, some are chosen specifically to symbolize characteristics; such as the tiger and motherly instincts. While others are chosen simply because of their exotic colors and features, such as the macaw. Some animals are placed in unexpected habitats, such as the macaw in the desert, to symbolize being introduced to new ideas, people or surroundings. This is often the first step in a Metamorphosis of any kind. Plants such as Ayahuasca, San Pedro, and Blue Lotus are chosen for their use in plant ceremonies across the word. They have been believed to have a direct natural connection to the Divine for thousands of years. When approached with intent and respect, these plants are a tool for consciousness, allowing the reconnecting with and healing of the soul. All of these aspects are important to me as I envision a world where the soul is free to roam and the Wild overwhelms the Machine."
