The NGSS is a brand new approach to science that fuses together not just the facts of science, but also the digging process that we associate with learning those facts. It's not just enough to know something or even describe something in science anymore. It's much more important that students understand the process in how we acquire these facts.
On the page below, you'll find links to NGSS Resources including a quick introduction, some background, and even some checklists to begin your journey.
Discovery Education presents a highly interdisciplinary approach to the sciences that tasks students to explore science through an Anchor Phenomenon, a Unit Project, several unique concepts that each have their own Investigative Phenomenon, and plenty of opportunities to embed ELA and Math.
You can access Discovery Education through your Clever account, but you can find resources below to help enact the curriculum including hands-on activity suggestions, video resources, and even suggested pacing guides.
Science skills plans are available for Amplify and SAVVAS Elevate, but not Discovery Education. Please consult the document to the right for the skills to unit-concept alignment in Discovery Education Science.
Open Education Resources (OER) are free curriculum materials for teachers to use in their classrooms. Quite often, they require an account to be set up but have high-caliber lessons and activities. Below, you'll find links to a K-2 OER (PhD Science offered through Great Minds), 6-8 OER (OpenSciEd), and some NYS-specific OERs through New Visions for Public Schools
You might know Great Minds for Eureka Math. A K-2 OER is now available which includes access to a Teacher Edition Book and Student Logbooks.
OpenSciEd creates free, high-quality, NGSS-aligned science materials and outstanding professional learning support that empowers educators to inspire all students with the beauty and wonder of science. Current curricula are available for Middle School and High School
For any schools pursuing the New York High School Biology or Earth Science Regents, OERs are available through New Visions for Public Schools.
A great stepping-stone curriculum for schools adjusting between the 1999 MST ESS Standards and 2016 ESS NGSS Standards
