Famously known as 'Heaven on Earth, Srinagar is located in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir, on the banks of river Jhelum. The city offers a mesmerising view of the morning light mirroring the mountains and the ornamental moon still hangs pale over the tranquil Dal Lake. The lake’s less urbanized eastern shore is decorated with the Mughal gardens that speak of history strung out for several kilometres. The subdued fortress and the familiar wooden mosques of the old times make a mark at the centre of the city in this era of remembering all that once existed.

Not only the beauty of Srinagar attracts us but the archaeologically rich heritage works like a magnet to the scientific community. The Architectural Survey of India (ASI) has recognized 56 monuments of National Importance in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the official site of the Directorate of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, the department is looking after 48 state-protected monuments or sites of archaeological and historical importance. Some of the most predominant attractions include Burzahom Archaeological Site, Bumzuva Cave and Temple, Akhund Mullah Shah Masjid, and Ancient Temple, Ladhoo.
