Who are HAM radio amateurs?
HAM radio amateurs are private citizen who have a license to own and operate a radio station. They are about the 0.02% of the world population. The activity of radio amateurs concerns about voice, video and data communications (with other radio amateurs), technical experimentation, collaboration with authorities in case of natural disasters or other emergencies, but their activity is mainly a hobby and a personal recreation.

APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) is a digital communications system that has been developed by Bob Bruninga, callsign WB4APR. It uses packet radio to send, on amateur radio frequencies, real time tactical information. The APRS network is used by ham radio operators all over the world. Information shared over the APRS network is for example geo positions (of radio stations or vehicles with trackers), text messages, announcements, local alerts, and weather reports.
