Our research focuses on understanding and designing energy and catalytic materials at the atomic scale through first-principles simulations. We combine density functional theory (DFT) with synchrotron-based X-ray spectroscopy to uncover reaction mechanisms and interfacial phenomena in heterogeneous catalysis, electrocatalysis, and energy storage systems. Our current interests include interface-driven activity, stability, and charge transfer, as well as data-driven and AI-assisted materials discovery.
Atomistic Understanding of Interfaces for Energy Conversion & Storage (에너지 변환 및 저장 소재의 계면 현상에 대한 원자 수준의 이해)
We use first-principles calculations and atomistic simulations to understand how interfaces, defects, and electronic structures govern material properties and chemical reactions. By closely integrating computational modeling with operando/in-situ experiments, we aim to establish fundamental design principles for catalysts and energy-storage materials.

Multiscale Modeling with Machine-Learning Interatomic Potentials
(머신러닝 원자간 포텐셜을 활용한 멀티스케일 소재 모델링 )
We develop machine-learning interatomic potentials (MLIPs) that combine first-principles accuracy with the efficiency of classical simulations. This enables large-scale simulations of structural evolution, chemical reactions, interfaces, and defects beyond the time and length scales accessible by conventional DFT.
