A pond filter is an important part of any pond. It keeps the water clean, so your fish and plants stay healthy. You don't need to do much maintenance on your filter, but there are some things you can do to keep it running well for years to come. Here they are.
The most common cause of filter failure is dirty filters. You should clean the entire filter system at least once a month during the summer and twice a month during the winter. Between those times, you should rinse any debris that gathers in the filter pads or on top of the waterfall.
While cleaning your Pond Fountain Filter, check for leaks around pipes and other connections. If you find any leaks, tighten them with an adjustable wrench or pliers before proceeding with cleaning your filters again.
The first step is to remove any sludge or other debris from the bottom of your pond. Do this on an outgoing tide, so you don't have to worry about getting water into your pump and filter system.
Use a long-handled net or rake to scoop out as much debris as you can see from above. Then take off all removable parts of your filter and give them a good scrubbing with hot water and detergent or bleach solution. Rinse well before replacing them in their housings.
You should change your UV bulb every season or two, depending on how often you use the pond and how much sunlight it gets. Change the bulb when it starts to dim or flicker. This is usually between six months and one year of use.
The good news is that most UV filters come with spare bulbs included. You can find them at most fish and pet stores and online retailers like Amazon.
A clean filter is essential for effective beach maintenance. If you take care of the filter, it can last for years without any issues.
