ARTISTIC PROJECTS

                                                                                                                                           One artist, one victim

The aim of this project is to unite Luxembourgish artists who choose to dedicate a letter, a song, a poem, or any other artistic tribute to one of the political prisoners risking the death penalty in Iran.

Friedrich Schiller, Emile Zola, or even the German intelligentsia exiled in Hollywood during the 1920s – from Brecht to Thomas Mann – toiled and strove to defend the people and nations fallen prey to totalitarian powers condemning those exercising their freedom of expression and freedom of worship to death.

In gathering Luxembourgish artists, we wish to attract the public eye to that which is happening as we speak in Iran, something that is sadly all too often ignored by the media.

By sharing these artistic tributes created by Luxembourgish artists, we seek to lift the veil obscuring from the public gaze those condemned to death as well as those risking the death penalty in Iran. The hideous farce that is the judiciary in Iran can only be set right by a strong, channeled international opposition.

Not only is access to internet in Iran currently limited or even cut off completely, but Western social media is inaccessible, even by VPN. The only logical deduction from this is that the Iranian government fears the impact external information can have, were it able to reach Iranian citizens. Moreover, the fact that so many singers, actors and writers have been arrested and incarcerated for their involvement in protests underlines, yet again, the regime’s fear of the influence art, in all its forms, can have on the Iranian people within the context of the conflict opposing the regime and the people.

It is for all these reasons that we deemed it important to launch such an artistic initiative here in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
