This case study examines Versace’s brand performance through a full brand inventory and a consumer-based brand equity analysis. Using the Brand Resonance Model as the primary framework, the project evaluates how consumers perceive Versace across identity, meaning, imagery, judgments, and loyalty. The goal was to understand the brand’s strengths, equity gaps, and opportunities for deeper resonance within the luxury fashion market.
The work was developed in a collaborative academic environment using professional research methods and strategic analysis tools. My contributions included leading the brand exploratory component, conducting consumer research and survey analysis, and designing the full executive-level presentation that communicated the findings and recommendations.
Versace operates in a highly competitive luxury fashion market where emotional connection, brand storytelling, and long-term loyalty are critical for sustaining equity. Although the brand is widely recognized for its bold aesthetic and iconic heritage, luxury consumers today seek deeper meaning and stronger resonance with the brands they admire. Understanding how Versace performs across the dimensions of brand equity provides valuable insight into its current positioning and future opportunities.
The objectives of this project were to
• Examine Versace’s brand identity, heritage, and current market perception
• Evaluate consumer responses using the Brand Resonance Model
• Identify strengths and gaps across performance, imagery, judgments, feelings, and loyalty
• Analyze how Versace compares with modern luxury expectations
• Develop strategic recommendations to strengthen long-term brand engagement.
I led the brand exploratory stream and shaped the analytical direction of the project by applying marketing and strategy frameworks to evaluate Versace’s equity. My responsibilities included conducting detailed research, interpreting consumer survey data, and extracting insights that informed the strategic narrative. I coordinated the team’s work to maintain consistency across analysis components and developed the full executive-level presentation, including the storyline, structure, and visual design used to communicate the final recommendations.
The analysis was conducted using a structured, multi-step approach that combined qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate Versace’s brand equity. The research began with a brand inventory review to understand Versace’s identity, heritage, visual codes, and competitive positioning. This was supported by secondary research across industry reports, academic sources, and luxury market insights.
To assess consumer perception, a survey was designed to measure how individuals interpret Versace across the dimensions of the Brand Resonance Model. The responses were analyzed to identify patterns in salience, performance, imagery, judgments, feelings, and loyalty. Benchmarking against competing luxury brands provided additional context for evaluating Versace’s strengths and gaps. The resulting insights were synthesized into a strategic narrative that informed the final recommendations.
The research revealed that Versace maintains strong brand recognition supported by a distinctive aesthetic, Italian heritage, and clear associations with luxury craftsmanship. Consumers consistently rated the brand highly in performance-related attributes such as quality, uniqueness, and design expertise.
However, the analysis also showed gaps in emotional connection and long-term resonance. While Versace is admired for its bold identity, many respondents did not express a deep sense of loyalty or personal attachment to the brand. Imagery and storytelling were less consistent compared to competitors who emphasize cultural relevance and narrative-driven communication. Versace’s brand meaning remains powerful but is not always reinforced through relationship-building experiences or community-oriented touchpoints.
The findings indicate that Versace’s equity is built on admiration rather than emotional loyalty. Consumers respect the brand for its craftsmanship and bold design language, but they do not consistently experience the deeper connection required for strong resonance. This suggests that Versace’s identity is powerful at the surface level yet under-leveraged in creating personal meaning for today’s luxury consumers.
The survey results also show that Versace’s iconic aesthetic remains a competitive strength, but its storytelling does not fully translate into relational engagement. Competitors that highlight heritage, community, and cultural relevance tend to create richer emotional value. Versace has the foundation for strong consumer affinity, but it must reinforce its brand world through more immersive experiences and narrative-driven communication. Strengthening the brand’s emotional dimension presents a clear opportunity to elevate loyalty and long-term equity.
Versace can strengthen long-term equity by expanding its brand meaning beyond visual identity and investing in deeper emotional engagement with consumers. The brand should elevate its storytelling by highlighting its heritage, craftsmanship, and creative philosophy through more narrative-driven campaigns and content. This would help transform admiration into personal relevance.
Versace would also benefit from creating more relationship-building touchpoints such as exclusive member programs, curated events, or cultural collaborations that foster a sense of belonging within the brand world. Enhancing the customer journey with personalized experiences and value-added services can reinforce loyalty and encourage repeat engagement. Finally, communicating a clearer stance on sustainability and responsible luxury would align the brand with evolving consumer expectations and differentiate Versace in a competitive luxury landscape.
