Trezor Bridge — Starting Up™ Your Device | Trezor®

When setting up a Trezor hardware wallet, users may come across the term Trezor Bridge. Bridge was an important part of the Trezor ecosystem for connecting a physical Trezor device with Trezor Suite and supported browsers. However, the technology has evolved, and the standalone version of Trezor Bridge is now deprecated. Trezor recommends using the current connection technology provided through Trezor Suite instead.

If you are starting with a new Trezor device, the safest approach is to follow the current official setup process rather than downloading an older Bridge installer from a third-party website.

What Is Trezor Bridge?

Trezor Bridge was software that allowed a Trezor hardware wallet to communicate with Trezor Suite and compatible browser-based applications. It ran in the background, meaning users generally did not need to interact with it after installation.

In earlier versions of the Trezor ecosystem, Bridge was commonly required when connecting a Trezor device to the browser version of Trezor Suite. It served as the communication layer between the hardware wallet and supported software.

Today, however, standalone Trezor Bridge has been deprecated. According to Trezor's current documentation, users should uninstall the standalone version because keeping an old installation may interfere with newer Trezor software.

Start Your Device With Trezor Suite

For a new Trezor, begin with the official Trezor Start page. The current onboarding process directs users to download Trezor Suite and follow the setup instructions for their hardware wallet. Trezor says the initial setup takes about 15 minutes.

Trezor Suite is the primary software interface for interacting with your Trezor device. The desktop application is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Trezor also provides a web application for supported browsers.

Step 1: Visit the Official Trezor Website

Begin by opening the official Trezor.io/Start page. Always check the website address carefully before downloading software or entering sensitive information.

Phishing websites can imitate legitimate cryptocurrency services, so avoid downloading Trezor software from unknown websites, advertisements, file-sharing platforms, or unofficial download pages.

Step 2: Download Trezor Suite

Download the latest version of Trezor Suite directly from Trezor. The official documentation recommends obtaining the software from Trezor's website or its official GitHub releases.

Trezor also provides instructions for verifying the authenticity of downloaded Suite installers. This can help ensure that the software you install has not been replaced or modified.

Step 3: Connect Your Trezor

Connect your hardware wallet to your computer using a suitable USB data cable. A charging-only cable may provide power without allowing communication between the device and computer. Trezor specifically recommends using an original cable or a good-quality cable designed for data transfer.

Once connected, open Trezor Suite and follow the instructions shown on screen.

Step 4: Complete Device Setup

Trezor Suite guides you through the necessary onboarding steps, which can include firmware installation, device verification, and wallet creation. Current Trezor devices are supplied without firmware installed, and the setup process checks the firmware as part of the security process.

Follow every instruction carefully and confirm important actions directly on your hardware wallet when requested.

Is Trezor Bridge Still Required?

For current Trezor users, standalone Trezor Bridge is no longer the recommended solution. Trezor has deprecated the standalone application and recommends removing it from computers where it is still installed.

If you are following an older tutorial that tells you to download Bridge before using Trezor Suite, check the publication date. Older setup guides may describe a previous connection method that is no longer necessary.

Instead, use the latest Trezor Suite download and verification guide to obtain the current software and understand the recommended installation process.

Using Trezor Suite in a Browser

Users who prefer not to install the desktop application can access the Trezor Suite web application at the official Suite website. Trezor states that its web application requires a Chromium-based browser such as Chrome, Edge, Brave, or Opera because it relies on WebUSB. Firefox and Safari do not currently support the required WebUSB functionality.

When using the web application, connect your Trezor with a USB data cable and follow the browser's device-access prompt.

The desktop application remains Trezor's preferred option for most users, according to its current documentation.

What If Trezor Suite Cannot Detect Your Device?

If your Trezor does not appear in Suite, begin with basic connection checks. Try another USB cable, another USB port, or another computer. Avoid using USB hubs or adapters while troubleshooting where possible.

Trezor also recommends checking that your device firmware is current and considering whether a VPN, firewall, or antivirus configuration could be interfering with communication.

If you previously installed standalone Trezor Bridge, removing it may be necessary. Trezor provides operating-system-specific instructions for uninstalling the deprecated software.

For additional troubleshooting, use the official Trezor Support resources rather than relying on unofficial guides.

Protect Your Wallet During Setup

Software installation is only one part of securing a hardware wallet. Your wallet backup is especially important because it can be used to restore access to your wallet when appropriate.

Never share your wallet backup or recovery information with another person. Legitimate Trezor support will not require you to disclose your recovery words. Likewise, do not enter recovery information into a website simply because a pop-up or message claims that it is required to synchronize, activate, or unlock your wallet.

Always verify important transaction details on the physical Trezor device before approving them.

Trezor Bridge: From Legacy Tool to Modern Setup

Trezor Bridge was once an essential component of connecting Trezor hardware wallets to compatible software. Today, the standalone version has been deprecated as Trezor has moved toward newer device-communication methods integrated with its current software environment.

If you are setting up a Trezor today, there is generally no reason to search for an old Trezor Bridge download. Start with Trezor.io/Start, install the latest Trezor Suite, connect your device, and follow the official onboarding instructions.

Using current software from the official Trezor website helps ensure that you receive current functionality, compatibility improvements, and security updates. If an older Trezor Bridge installation remains on your computer, follow Trezor's official removal instructions before continuing with the latest software.
