The course is designed to introduce students to elementary econometric methods and their applications. The teaching will emphasize a combination of theory and empirical applications.
Objective of Course
To provide the students with some useful tools for his/her future research.
To help the students develop a way of thinking in quantitative terms.
The course will cover several key models as well as identification and estimation methods used in modern econometrics.
We shall being with exploring some leading models of econometrics, then seeing structures, then providing methods of identification, estimation, and inference.
You will get lots of hands-on experience with using the methods on real data sets.
Course Content
Module 1: Linear Regression Model: (10 Hours)
Two variable model: estimation of parameters, properties of parameters, hypothesis testing and model validation. Extension to multiple linear regression model
Module 2: Failure of classical assumptions: (10 Hours)
Heteroskedasticity, autocorrelation and multicollinearity: implications, corrective measures, Outliers:-implication and detection, non-normality of errors and bootstrapping of confidence intervals
Module 3: Systems of equations: (10 Hours)
Endogeneity and specification issues, Structural form and reduced form models, instrumental variables and two stage least squares
Module 4: Introduction to time series: (10 Hours)
Stationary and non-stationary time series, tests of stationarity, optimal forecasts and methods of forecast evaluation, introduction to ARIMA models
Course Outcome
Econometrics will provides the tools to enable students to extract useful information about the important economic policy issues from the available data. Students who gain expertise in econometrics will find that they enhance their job prospects.
Econometric models are power tools that can drive the business ahead, helping in smarter decision making, optimization of costs and better understanding of consumer demands.
