Day Two: Monday, July 22
Above are some sketches of different macro invertabrates I found at my site today.Â
Above is a sketch of the river today at my site. Similarly to yesterday, the water appeared more red-orange. I also noticed how it was much sunnier today.
To the right is an image of my bio Macroinvertebrates (BMI) identification sheet. I clearly struggled finding BMIs. I used my net to collect five separate groups of BMIs. In total, I only found fourteen individual BMIs. Each BMI I found was also extremely small; this made it difficult to identify each type of insect. I wonder if my river's lack of sediment between rocks contributed to the lack of BMIs; almost every rock I turned over was smooth and lacking in sedment deposit. I also wonder if the recent storms have caused a greater amount and speed of water in the river, forcing the BMIs to move away from an unstable river.
Today was bright and sunny, even more so than yesterday. i started my data collection by sketching my river. The site had not changed much since yesterday, the water was still a red-ish brown color because of how many rocks were in the water. Next, I sampled the temperature, conductivity, and pH of the water. Finally, I was able to collect some BMIs. I finished up my time at the river with a final sketch of my BMIs before dumping them back into the water. On the way to my car, I saw a GBH! Overall a pretty good day at the river.
