Based on the map study of the city of Santa Ana, California. Much of the open and
recreational spaces are nearby residential areas that have larger volume of residential zoning.
However, simply glancing at the map there is a limited amount of open spaces in the city. in
addition, commercial and services at a glance are densified in main streets and areas of high
traffic main streets. Furthermore, residential area is located mostly in the middle of the city.
The southwestern and southeastern parts of the city seems to not be zoned for residential, yet,
much of the commercial services are closer to residential areas compared to open spaces.
Lastly, parcel number APN=188-041-01 is zoned commercial and is in a prime location due to its
close vicinity with residential clusters.
The data gathered to find percentages of parcels in the city of Santa Ana from all three
categories (commercial, residential, open space). Resulted in residential land taking up most of
the land area in the city. But also, taking up the highest number of parcels in the city. This is due
to the large number of single family residential homes. In regards to land area residential also
leads because of the vast number of parcels and also because apartments and condos have a
larger area footprint. With 35,994 land parcels out of the total amount in the city it is clear that
the city can be considered mostly a suburban community. Although visibly the area of
residential land does not encompass all of Santa Ana. Data demonstrates another angle on how
residentially dense the city is compared to the other two categories. Overall, the city should
invest in developing more open spaces and recreational activities in the city. Accounting less
than 3 percent of the total area of the city, it is necessary for residents to have a place to
stretch and exercise. Moreover, if open spaces were to be developed closer to residential areas
most this would make the already small percentage of open spaces more accessible to its
residents.
