Entering Massachusetts from Rhode Island with a bookleaf and a very old street name blade for South St. which is (maybe?) embossed. The standard green Welcome sign is just beyond that, then MA 96 crosses the Tinkerville Brook.
A few more signs near the RI border then a non-standard rectangular bus turn around warning. Should I be looking for a school bus or some other type of bus? Continuing north, we intersect a few streets named after trees in southern Douglas.
At the southern end of Arch St. then the lone NB shield before the northern end of Arch St. The road becomes windier after Arch St. and we find a common rectangular BLIND DRIVE sign farther ahead.
Blind driveways warning, that's plural. NB view just after Woodland Rd.
Passing a couple more streets then another typical MA blind drive sign and an all text School Bus Stop Ahead warning.
At the Southern New England Trunkline Trail crossing. After that, a rare mile marker appears. These are far more common on larger, higher-speed roads, not two-lane rural roads like MA 96. Do Not Pass sign comes in near the end of South St.
First two pics are at the same location, nearly 5 years apart. Sad to see the DPW shield be replaced by the awful new MassDOT style. All text stop ahead warning and a preemptive end assembly for MA 96.
MA 96 NB at SW Main St. Second pic shows the true end of MA 96 at MA 16.
SB turning right on South St. while SW Main St. continues towards Wallum Lake. The first SB shield is most certainly not old, but sports the curly numerals of the old MA font. I assume this sign is simply mimicking the style of a previous sign. Next SB shield is at the crossing of the Southern New England Trunkline Trail.
MA 16 EB approaching MA 96. The JCT 96 sign is unintuitively paired with a JCT 16 sign. Curiously, there is no mention of MA 96 at all on MA 16 WB.
