Adam was adopted in the early 20th Century in Baltimore, MD.
Allegedly, he was “brought home in a basket” by his adopting mother who was working as a servant for an Italian family.
This information came as part of a "deathbed confession" by his mother, who died soon after, in the early 1960s. And no more information was able to be obtained.
He lived from about August 10, 1907 to December 30, 1946.
Adam H. Johnson married Helen Audrey Stegman in the 1930s, and they had 3 children: Sissy, Chuck, and Ron.
His biological parents and adoptive parents have mostly remained a mystery.
In the beginning of 2018, an effort was begun to find the origins of Adam Howard Johnson. Using genetic testing kits from 23AndMe and Ancestry.com, along with a lot of public resource database searches, libraries, government records, and genealogy tracking tools. It has taken some years and lots of effort, but it is believed that we have answers at the end of 2021.
The accuracy is probably not 100%, but this is what we have learned.
The individual's timelines, which you are about to read here, will lead up to the year Adam was conceived, late 1906. Then, two years after Adam was adopted, in the summer 1909, we explore the details of a pivotal Johnson family event. And, finally, what happened with the Johnsons after 1909.
I hope you enjoy the surprising stories of the Johnson family.

A note of gratefulness and thanks to The Baltimore Sun, Evening Sun, Baltimore American, and all the long-gone reporters, and all of the research helpers today, like JFields at Enoch Pratt Library. And to the Johnsons for their historic and genetic input. And to the Mormons for being obsessed with ancestry.
