I started freelancing for The Winchester Star as a sports reporter in April 2025. In the time since, I've made the long hour-and-a-half drive to Winchester numerous times to cover five area high schools and one NCAA Division III university, Shenandoah of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). I joined during the busiest time of year for newspapers, and quickly learned what it takes to help maintain a successful outlet. Adhering to strict deadlines and writing in a certain style that adhered to the paper's voice are critical components of this opportunity. Working within more stringent editorial oversight was new for me, but it's taught me how to be more critical of my work and to develop a keener attention to detail.
