"Regulated medical waste, as defined as both red bag waste and sharps waste, can be generated in both healthcare facilities and commercial businesses. This type of waste must be properly managed not only to avoid hefty regulatory fines but also to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Sharps and soft wastes (red bag waste) and those saturated with blood or certain other body fluids must be compliantly handled, contained, stored, shipped, and treated following all local, state, and federal regulations." "In the past decade a new method of sterilization using hydrogen peroxide has been introduced to the healthcare community. This method disperses a hydrogen peroxide solution in a vacuum chamber, creating a plasma cloud. This agent sterilizes by oxidizing key cellular components, which inactivates the microorganisms." References (Tilton, G., & Kauffman, M. 2004, June).
