Each of us guards a gate of change that can only be unlocked from the inside. -- Marilyn Ferguson
ELT 653 Grading:
You will be graded this semester based on your progress on developing your action research. In this semester you will be expected to do the following:
You will receive a letter grade for this trimester. The grade will depend in the richness of your experience in your action research project, your understanding of the action research process and your fulfillment of the requirements. This will be a portfolio evaluation and we will ask you to participate by evaluating your own progress toward your goals. We will also grade you on your ability to help others. Collaborative leadership is the theme of this last session and we like to see you embody what you learn.
In the end it will not be what we think about your progress but what you think. You will get out of this experience what you put into it. We are looking to see you invest your heart and soul.
Review of Action Research Report
The elements do not have to be in the following order but all element should be a part of your report.
You can describe each cycle as a mini section with many of these elements or you can now combine the cycles into one narrative that describes all of the cycles (how one leads to the other). You can write your report as a web document or a print document (posted on the web). The format, headings and links are up to you. The goal is clear communication. You should be clear on privacy issues. If you have permission to list the school or organization name, you can list it. For example in some cases, you might be linking to the school web site to illustrate your work. This is fine as long as you first show it to your principal and he or she is fine with it. Generally if something is posted on the web, you have permission to link to it. But what you say about the site should be reviewed by people who have a vested interest in the site. If you have specific questions, check with Margaret or Paul. You should find that you have writing you have done in 638a-d as well as in your other classes that will help you complete your report.
The following is a grading rubric to help you assess your own work.
We will review it together at the end of the program.
This rubric was originally adapted from the Learning from cases rubric developed by Karen Hammerness, Lee Shulman, Linda Darling-Hammond, Kay Moffett, and Misty Sato. It has been significantly changed to address action resarch. Accessed on March 18, 2004:http://gallery.carnegiefoundation.org/khammerness/c_in_the_c/fback/rev_rub/rev_rub.html
Examples of reviewer questions:
Tell us more about your professional area and what changes you would like to see in the future?
How did what you read help you plan your action research and what reflections have you had on this reading?
How did one cycle influence the next, that is what are the ties you see between the cycles?
What theories of learning direct your thinking about your action?
