Appropriate Age: 6 - 7

Grade 3 marks the beginning of reading to learn. Third graders are still young enough to love school, love their teacher and get excited over simple things like coloring. It also means more responsibility in the classroom and at home. They are responsible for writing down homework assignments and actually completing them.

In Grade 4, children learn how to deeply think about and make connections in new material, and grasp more complex concepts across all subjects. They also write with clarity, flow, and structure. Friendship becomes more important, and cliques tend to get more common. They can get a little more independence – and often a lot more attitude – and they know their place in the world.
Appropriate Age: 9 - 10
This is an important time for kids to cement the skills they have gained throughout the upper grades and lay a solid foundation for the years ahead. Pupils will practice more complex mathematical concepts such as exponents, decimals, fractions and more. They will enjoy organizing and classifying objects and ideas. Be able to read and concentrate for long periods of time. Read complex text fluently and with good comprehension.

Grade 6 is a year of significant transition for children as they use the skills they have previously learned and apply them to more complex and independent learning in deeper and more rigorous ways. Organization and independence are important skills. They have to write to provide information, to support their opinion, and to tell a story.
