Corequisites:
You must submit a fingerprint based criminal history background check after joining this class and before clinicals start.
You must hold a current Virginia Approved CPR certification before clinical rotations start. Select here to view VAOEMS approved courses
2 courses will be held at ACRS before this course begins.
The cost of the course is $500 for individuals who agree to sign a contract with Appomattox County Rescue Squad and serve as a volunteer for at least 1 year.
At this time, applications will not be accepted for those not willing to join Appomattox County Rescue Squad. Please check back later as this may change.
Included in the cost is the course textbook and online learning material, clinical t-shirt, & a CPR class.
Additional costs that are highly recommended for this course include:
Stethoscope and BP cuff
Full payment will be due on the first night of class.
A refund may be given if withdrawn by the 3rd class, minus the cost of the textbook and online software. No refund will be given after May 18, 2026.

Mondays and Thursdays from 6 pm to 10 pm.
There will be 3 Saturday classes:
May 30th - 8 am - 12 pm
June 27th - 8 am - 12 pm
August 15th
This will be the day of the terminal competency psychomotor exam.
Begins at 8 am and will go until testing is finished.
Attendance is required to pass this course.
CPR will be offered on the following two dates:
May 7, 2026
May 9, 2026
All lectures and labs will be in person.
Students must attend a minimum of 85% of scheduled class days per VAOEMS regulation 12VAC5-31-1501.
As a result, a maximum of 4.5 absences will be permitted throughout the duration of this course.
(Tardies and leaving early count as 0.5 absences).
This course requires a considerable amount of time to be spent both inside and outside of the classroom. You will need to have good time management skills to be successful in this course.
There will be homework, tests, and other assignments that will need to be completed online. You will need a reliable laptop and internet access to complete these assignments.
Field rotations will be done at Appomattox County Rescue Squad or with other agencies upon instructor approval.
Field rotations will take place outside of classroom lecture/lab hours.
10 patient contacts will need to be obtained. This will take a variable amount of time for each student.
A minimum of 36 clinical hours will need to be completed.
Applications will be accepted until the course is full or until April 10, 2026 at 23:59, whichever comes first.
