Guidelines for the Gujarat Heritage Journey
Clothing & FootwearGuidelines for the Gujarat Heritage Journey
- Modest, comfortable clothing is recommended; cotton, linen, and breathable fabrics work best throughout Gujarat’s varied climate.
- For temple visits (Modhera Sun Temple, Kirti Mandir, etc.), avoid shorts, sleeveless tops, and revealing attire. Ethnic wear, especially for special dining or heritage experiences, is encouraged.
- Footwear: Wear easy-to-remove sandals or slippers, as many temples and some village homes require barefoot entry.
- Stay hydrated; carry a reusable water bottle to reduce plastic use, and refill wherever safe drinking water is available.
- Inform the team at least 24 hours in advance for activities that require specific preparation, such as safaris or guided experiences (Gir Safari, block printing workshops, etc.).
- If participating in a safari, eat light and carry snacks (where permitted). For bush dinners and special meals, inform your host of dietary restrictions ahead of time.
- When visiting tribal villages (Maldhari, Siddi, Dasada, Dared, etc.):
- Be respectful, seek permission before photography, and avoid entering private homes without invitation.
- Offer smiles, listen, and engage with genuine curiosity.
- Shopping at artisan workshops (Patola weaving in Patan, block-printing studios in Ahmedabad):
- Respect working hours and ask before taking pictures.
- Purchases can often be made directly from the craftspeople or recommended official outlets.
- Network coverage in remote areas (Gir forest, Rann of Kutch, Polo Forest) may be patchy. Download offline maps or key documents beforehand.
- Portable power banks and charging cables are recommended for longer travel days.
