WHAT IS AN ACL?
The ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) is one of the major ligaments in your knee. It helps control motion and gives your knee stability especially during cutting, pivoting, and jumping. But here’s the good news: many ACL injuries are preventable.
What causes an ACL tear?
Quick stops or changes in direction
Jumping and landing awkwardly
Direct impact to the knee
Weak hip or core muscles
Poor technique
Who is most at risk?
Teenage athletes (especially girls)
Soccer, basketball, volleyball players
Those with muscle imbalances or poor form
Quick Facts:
70% of ACL injuries are non-contact
Girls are significantly more at risk than boys
Many ACL injuries require surgery + 6–12 months of rehab
Why Resistance Bands Are Helpful in ACL Recovery
Resistance bands play an important role in ACL injury rehabilitation by providing safe, controlled resistance to help rebuild strength, stability, and mobility in the knee joint. After an ACL tear or surgery, the surrounding muscles, especially the quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes, can weaken, making the knee more vulnerable to further injury. Band exercises allow for progressive loading of these muscles without placing excessive stress on the healing ligament. They also support neuromuscular re-education, helping the body relearn proper movement patterns and joint control. From improving range of motion to enhancing joint stability, resistance bands are a versatile and effective tool throughout the recovery process.
