About us
Starting its journey in the eighties of the last century, the department has completed almost four decades successfully. Previously the department offered only General Course in Zoology, but after a few years Honours Course was introduced in the department. At present, there are three dedicated members of the well-qualified teaching staff in the department and they are always eager to provide state-of-art education to students. Besides doing their academic assignment, they also provide useful counseling to students from time to time for the advancement of their career. The department is well-equipped with SMART classrooms, projectors, upgraded laboratory and well-stocked library. So far as the performance of students of the Department of Zoology in University examinations is concerned, it has been always satisfactory from the beginning.
Keeping pace with the changing scenario of higher education in modern age, the teachers of the department are going to launch a departmental website to assist students. The website contains all kinds of information concerning the Department of Zoology and other requisite materials. I hope the students of our department will be greatly benefited by this website.
Let me take the opportunity on this occasion to pay my sincere tribute to Late Dr. Tapas Kumar Saha, the former Head of the Department, who always provided useful suggestion and assistance for the all-round development of the department. After the sad demise of Dr. Saha in 2017, the onus of steering the department to the desired goal has come upon my shoulder and I am committed to do the utmost for the progress of the department and benefit of my students. I welcome all to the newly launched website of the department and convey my best wishes.
MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT
The department is rapidly expanding both in scope and in infrastructure. We are actively procuring sophisticated instruments and setting up new facilities. At present two major projects are running in the department. We the teachers and the students of the department enjoy a very genial and jovial relationship. Faculty members of the department are extremely sincere and compassionate.They are constantly encourage students and teach biological science and make learning enjoyable. In order to motivate our students we are constantly encouraging an interactive learning environment in the department, we arrange regularly student presentations, assignment work, group discussion etc. as a part of our innovative learning initiative. We welcome all the aspiring students to take part in the development of the department. This department, with great potentiality will be able to keep up its promising venture if students actively and heartily participate in its progress. We welcome suggestions from students and their parents and well-wishers. We would also like to urge our students who are aspiring and egger future scientists and academicians to consider the department as a prospective research where they will be able to train themselves.--DR.JYOTI PRAKASH SANYAL
