Radically Inclusive Seax Wica
The Ácholt Inhíred is a Seax Wica coven based in Sacramento, California that bridges Neo-Pagan and Heathen communities. Formed in spring 2023, the inhíred presents a praxis of modern magical practice founded on values of transparency, egalitarian administration, and the principle that all peoples regardless of religion, race, gender, sexuality and ability are welcome in the spheres of Northern Paganism. In Germanic cosmology man and woman are wrought from Ash and Elm respectively. In recent years a third origin has been proposed - of Oak - a stalwart and genderless symbol from which this inhíred takes its name; translated to 'oak wood family'.
The ministry of Seax Wica is dedicated to furthering the empathy, evolution, and re-enchantment of our communities as spiritual and magical practitioners. Ácholt Inhíred works to facilitate responsible guidance and training in modern Seax Wica open to all peoples and is continually evolving and improving. Ácholt Inhíred serves as a spiritual family, and as an affiliation of independent practitioners of neo-pagan, heathen, or other northern European spiritual crafts. Members of Ácholt Inhíred seek personal growth through divine interaction and reverence of nature, with respect and responsibility, harming none.
Seax Wica is a modern magical practice proposed by Raymond Buckland in his book 'the Tree' in 1974. It was a landmark publication in modern paganism, because it proposed a system of self-initiation wherein gatherings consist of equals coming together in fellowship without degrees, secrets or exhaustive requirements to entry.
In the wider heathen community of Sacramento, there are two primary motivations for adopting the ritual structure of Seax Wica:
Many heathen groups take reconstructive scope that attempt to isolate culture to a particular geography and time period. We understand that while many may adopt reconstructionist approaches in personal practice, that it can be difficult to establish community among disparate backgrounds. Seax Wica allows us to gather in an explicitly modern and inclusive context.
We acknowledge that the Asatru Folk Assembly is active just outside the city of Sacramento, and that it is our duty to present a clear, radically inclusive vision of northern faith that is not rooted in bigotry. See the about page for more.
This calendar details the holy tides and moons for 2023, and will be updated annually.
In-person events occur monthly on weekends. Because some gatherings occur at private residences, location information is not shared publicly. If new, reach out to a member and we will arrange an informal coffee meetup before an invitation is shared.
Ácholt Inhíred events are ALWAYS radically inclusive. We intentionally welcome all persons, to this site and to our events, of any race, color, age, ancestry, sexual or relationship orientation, body size, gender, religion, or any other difference.
We reserve the right to ask anyone to leave a Ácholt Inhíred sponsored event or circle if they are being excessively disruptive, excessively intoxicated, or engaging in harassment of any kind. This type of behavior by ANYONE will NOT be tolerated. If you feel you are being harassed (sexually, ideologically, etc), please talk to an Inhíred member, and we will help you, including reporting to local authorities.
