The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2, “Zero Hunger,” focuses on ending hunger, achieving food security, and promoting sustainable agriculture by 2030. While the goal is ambitious and necessary, the reality is disheartening: according to the United Nations, by 2022, 735 million people worldwide were suffering from chronic hunger (2023). Conflicts, climate change, and high food prices have only worsened the crisis.
This issue can feel personal at times, especially living in the United States and seeing the food industry up close. We've seen
just how much food is wasted daily. Sometimes we’re even guilty of wasting food without much thought. But knowing that
millions of people around the world go to bed hungry, often because they simply can’t afford food, is what drives our passion to
dig deeper into this issue.
That’s why we’re focusing on agricultural technology. These innovations, like precision farming, vertical agriculture, smart food tracking, and surplus redistribution platforms, can play a major role in fighting hunger. By increasing food production, reducing waste, and improving how food is shared and stored, technology can help bridge the gap between abundance and need. Through this project, we want to explore how these tools can support the mission of achieving Zero Hunger, both globally and in our local communities.
This project was created especially for nonprofit food workers, the people on the front lines helping to feed our communities. You may not work in science or tech, but you know the real-world challenges of food insecurity better than anyone. Our goal is to show how agricultural technology can support your mission by helping reduce food waste, improve access to fresh food, and make food systems more efficient. Whether you’re running a local pantry, partnering with restaurants, or coordinating food drives, the tools and ideas on this site are here to help you do even more with less. We explore how modern agricultural technologies like precision farming, smart irrigation, and food tracking systems can help reduce food waste and increase food access.
