Workshop on AI-Augmented 3D Sketching in Extended Reality – ACE-XR at IEEE AIxVR 2027
Date: January, TBD, 2027, Vancouver, Canada
Virtual, Augmented, and Extended Reality (VR/AR/XR) technologies have rapidly evolved from experimental prototypes into mainstream platforms for research, industry, and entertainment. At the same time, generative AI is transforming how artists, designers, and engineers create. Yet, it is unclear what the effect of Gen-AI is on sketching directly in 3D via an XR device. When you can sketch directly in 3D space, should AI tidy your strokes, suggest the next form, or create alongside you? And what might we gain, or lose, in the process?
The ACE-XR 2027 Workshop brings together researchers, designers, and practitioners to explore AI-augmented 3D sketching in XR. We invite work that imagines, builds, and critically examines immersive tools in which AI acts as a true creative collaborator rather than just another feature. Join us to help shape how the next generation of XR creative tools will think, respond, and share authorship with the people who use them.
Submission Types
This workshop provides a platform for researchers, industry experts, and artists to share their visions for the future of 3D sketching in XR in light of advances in Gen-AI. We invite interested participants to submit one of two types of papers:
Statement of Interest (1–2 pages): A concise description of the participant’s background, interests, and what they hope to explore or contribute to the workshop. These will not be reviewed, as we will only use them to identify the best presenters for the position paper presentations. We will host the statement papers on the ACE-XR website.
Vision Paper (4–6 pages): These will be a developed account of relevant research, design work, or theoretical perspectives related to the use of AI for 3D sketching. We will select 3 position papers for the authors to present and discuss with the rest of the participants. The position papers will be peer-reviewed by 2 co-organizers and included in the conference proceedings, which will be submitted for publication by IEEE Computer Society Press and for inclusion in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.
Submission Information
Submissions should not be anonymous and should be submitted via EasyChair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ieeeaixvr2027
Authors should submit their manuscripts in double-column IEEE format following the official IEEE Manuscript Formatting guidelines and considering the page limits. Also consider the IEEE policies for publication (i.e., you must own copyright to all parts and the manuscript must be original work and not currently under review elsewhere). As part of AIxVR, the workshop follows the IEEE Submission and Peer Review Policies on matters related to ethical submission and the peer review process, including but not limited to the following points from the guidelines:
ACE-XR requires submissions to relate only to original work. Submissions to ACE-XR cannot be under review elsewhere.
Plagiarism in any form, as defined by IEEE is not acceptable.
Authors are required to disclose the use of AI-generated content in an article, including but not limited to text, images, figures, and code (this excludes AI for editing and grammar enhancement).
For submissions involving human subject studies: If the studies were conducted by the authors and/or if the data used is not from a publicly available source but rather collected by the authors, then the paper should discuss either that the studies and/or data collection was conducted with oversight by an Institutional Review Board/Ethics committee or include an explanation as to why such a review was not performed. Submissions should also report that consent was obtained from the participants or explain why consent was not obtained.
Please refer to the link above for the IEEE Submission and Peer Review Policies for details.
This workshop is part of IEEE AIxVR, which is sponsored by IEEE's Technical Community on Multimedia Computing and, as such, is committed to the ethical, moral, and legal guidelines specified in the equity, diversity, and inclusion statements of IEEE AIxVR.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Authors of accepted vision papers are expected to give an in-person 20-minute presentation at the workshop.
Registration Policy: All authors of accepted papers (vision and statement) must register for the main conference.
