In the fall of 2013 – several community based organizations, providers, and county agencies collaborated on a forum that brought together 50 parents to discuss policy issues and systems change within the Social Services Agency. It was a huge success and through ACECPC, Parent Voices Oakland has continued to organize an annual forum to elevate the voices of parents and caregivers on issues that impact their community. Recently, we organized a forum on child care and racial justice, created a petition to fund child care instead of jails, and sparked a movement of parents in Alameda County that won the revenue generating ballot measure for Early Child Care and Education for Alameda County, Measure C! Bringing our voices together makes an impact, especially when we are working directly with decision makers.

The Family Feedback subcommittee is a space for parents to discuss, dream, and brainstorm ideas for more meaningful and helpful systems-level work with families of young children. This subcommittee has discussed family driven principles, SSA issues, housing struggles, employment barriers, and needed reentry supports.
The goal of the subcommittee is to discuss barriers to family support and engagement practices in connection to systems that support families with young children. Through identifying issues, potential changes to specific agencies are explored in order to better assist the families these systems serve.
