Background Information

ACCEPT Counselling centre for alcoholics and drug addicts was established at Punnapra in Alappuzha District by the Changanacherry Social Service Society (CHASS) Reg. No. K.44/66 a pioneer in the sector of social services with an unblemished record. In 1997 we have started ACCEPT De-addiction Centre Punnapra at Alappuzha and it is continuing there with the grand in -aid for De-addiction Treatment from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Govt. of India.

Our Mission:

Avoid discrimination and stigma towards people who are addicted to alcohol and drugs, instead, they should be given consideration and treatment to bring them to the forefront of society.

Our Vision is to provide alcohol and drug addicts with the finest treatment possible in a friendly and safe environment.

Alcohol Dependence (Alcoholism)

The American Medical Association (AMA) had declared that alcoholism is an illness in 1956. It mainly has 3 stages and they are as follows.

In the primary Stage,he/she start using alcohol and mostly it doesn’t cause much problems in ones physical, mental, social & financial well being. However it is a causative factor to other diseases.

In the progressive stage it always gets worse over any considered period of time. This means that we can predict with a great deal of accuracy the onset of many symptoms of alcoholism such as blackouts, euphoric recall, and blaming.

In chronic because it never stops on its own accord. Like a bad check, it just keeps coming back.

Dependence Syndrome

Dependence syndrome as being a cluster of physiological, behavioral, and cognitive phenomena in which the use of a substance or a class of substances takes on a much higher priority for a given individual than other behaviors that once had greater value. A central descriptive characteristic of the dependence syndrome is the desire (often strong, sometimes overpowering) to take the psychoactive drugs (which may or not have been medically prescribed), alcohol, or tobacco.
