Reducing the risk of large, high intensity fire (and other mega-disturbances) through forest treatments has become a management imperative in California. The Forest Service has developed/collaborated on multiple initiatives nationally and in partnership with the State of California to accelerate forest restoration efforts in California. A Strategy for Shared Stewardship (2018) and the Wildfire Crisis Implementation Plan (2022) reinforce specific goals for pace and scale of strategic forest treatments over the next decade. Concurrently, the State of California has issued a new Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan (2022), designed to strategically accelerate efforts to restore the health and resilience of California forests through a joint State-Forest Service framework to improve and enhance forest stewardship in California. The social incentives and the scientific knowledge to pursue meaningful restoration of forested landscapes in California are firmly established.

The SPEC ACCEL benchmark suite tests performance with computationally intensive parallel applications running under the OpenCL, OpenACC, and OpenMP 4 target offloading APIs. The suite exercises the performance of the accelerator, host CPU, memory transfer between host and accelerator, support libraries and drivers, and compilers.

Wilson School of Nursing is pleased to offer an innovative approach to nursing education called ACCEL-RN, an accelerated second-degree prelicensure BSN program. Building on previous learning and work experience, ACCEL-RN transitions individuals with non-nursing baccalaureate degrees to the discipline of nursing. Students are selected in the spring through a competitive selection process. This program will admit students in the summer semester through a competitive selection process, and courses begin full-time in the Summer I semester, continuing full time in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Graduates of this program are prepared to take the licensure examination (NCLEX) to become a registered nurse.

The accelerated and intensive structure of the program means that you can obtain a BS in Nursing in sixteen months. The program uses a cohort model, and students are accepted into a specific cohort that begins each January in Milton and each Fall in Plymouth. Each cohort is limited to 30 students thus affording students the opportunity to know their professors and fellow students well.

The National Science Foundation invites interested parties to participate in a new endeavor, the NSF Convergence Accelerator (NSF C-Accel) Pilot. With this DCL, NSF's goals are to: (i) pilot a new NSF capability (the NSF Convergence Accelerator) to accelerate use-inspired convergence research in areas of national importance, and (ii) initiate convergence team-building capacity around exploratory, potentially high-risk proposals in three convergence topics (tracks).

As a funder of research and education across all fields of science and engineering and with relationships with universities and funding agencies around the world, NSF is uniquely positioned to pilot this approach to accelerate discovery and innovation. NSF C-Accel brings teams together to focus on grand challenges of national importance that require a convergence approach. The teams are multidisciplinary and leverage partnerships; the tracks relate to a grand challenge problem and have a high probability of resulting in deliverables that will benefit society within a fixed term. NSF C-Accel is modeled on acceleration and innovation activities from the most forward-looking companies and universities.

The NSF C-Accel Pilot's tracks focus on use-inspired research with relatively short timeframes for deliverables and are intended to leverage partnerships.
