About Us

We are a collaboration brought together by a belief. We believe people are the best versions of themselves — and the most likely to reach their professional goals — when they operate in a balanced, sustainable manner.

However, this is not a belief. This is what science tells us about how people function and perform in different conditions.

This realisation led us to work together, focusing on the positive impact the right work environment and personal balance have on one’s possibility to thrive. This is what AcademicResonance stands for.

Matthias Maercker

Who am I:

I have always been fascinated by learning about people's feelings, thoughts, and the drivers behind their behavior. Understanding and working with people is at the core of my personality.

I have gained extensive experience in mental health questions during my almost 25 years in academia as student, researcher, teacher, and in various leadership positions. Throughout my career I have participated in continuous leadership training, pedagogical training, and education in psychology.

At AcademicResonance I am dedicated to helping individuals, universities and organizations develop healthy work habits. It is my firm belief that a safe and healthy work environment can be achieved for every individual.

Jouni Kainulainen

Who am I:

I am a professional scientist — an astronomer — and an enthusiastic academic writer. I love discovering new ways of doing things and scrutinising what we think we know.

A 25-year journey through the academic world has taken me from a student to a faculty member. That road has exposed me to environments, practices, and people in several countries, and to various perspectives of academia.

I have about ten years of experience in academic leadership, as both a scientific research group leader and a manager of an academic unit at a university. These roles have given me insight into different tasks and ways of working. Most of all, they have shown me the crucial role of the right environment, support, and collaboration in the success of both individuals and organisations.

At AcademicResonance, my goal is to facilitate and support others on their own journeys — wherever they may eventually lead.

Further background Matthias:

I have a background in research in astronomy and have worked in academia since obtaining my PhD in 2010. Throughout my career I have been in various leadership roles.  I am currently responsible for postdoctoral researchers and PhD students within my division at Chalmers University of Technology. My primary focus lies in managing the psychosocial aspects of the working environment and enabling and developing sustainable work habits. In this capacity, I am dedicated to both supporting my team and advancing the overall work environment.

My academic career has been complemented by a comprehensive exploration of psychological disciplines. I have successfully completed courses in general psychology, personality psychology, social psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, clinical psychology, and organizational psychology. This academic pursuit serves as a foundation for my ongoing commitment to the study of psychology. My studies in psychology additionally strongly influence my approach to developing sustainable work habits and affecting mental wellbeing at the workplace.

In addition to my research and psychological activities, I have received formal training in pedagogy, with a particular emphasis on theoretical perspectives, diversity, and supervision. Further, I have actively engaged in leadership and diversity training programs to enhance my skills and contribute to fostering inclusive environments.

Combining my background in research, psychology, and leadership, I embark on a mission to provide courses in mental health, sustainable work habits, and development of and support in various work processes. My goal is to offer guidance for a harmonious and sustainable professional journey that is founded in evidence-based research from psychology and behavioral sciences, and benefits from my experiences as leader, teacher, researcher, and student.
