VISUALS
TOEFL TIME was the creation of Sarah Freeman, Haley Hinkle and Matthew, as part of the ELang-477 course, Winter semester 2020.
To focus instruction and enable clarity Matthew created a series of diagrams. Gathered into a collection, these images help students to prioritize their time on each of the major skills, Speaking, Writing, and Reading.
Dr. Mark Tanner challenged his ELang-477 students to bring the skills, Pronunciation and Listening, to the forefront of ESL instruction. For this purpose, Matthew integrated cutting-edge Second Language Acquisition research into a visual system, showing students the relationship of Accuracy and Fluency to each skill.
Matthew exited the traditional US education model in tenth grade. He earned his high school diploma through self-schooling.
Home-school reformation became a passion for Matthew, leading him to form a non-profit organization in 1999. For more than five years he provided assistance to parents, students, and professionals seeking to understand the United States education system.
In 2018, Matthew incorporated Adaptor Haus, a for profit editorial company. He serves as editor in chief and head of design.
