CAPT. ZAKI AHAD
COMMANDANT
The Academy is headed by its Commandant, Capt. Zaki Ahad. Capt. Ahad is a graduate of the 14th batch of Bangladesh Marine Academy. He started his sea-going career with Bangladesh Shipping Corporation in August 1978 as a deck cadet. Gradually rising through the ranks of officers, Capt. Ahad achieved his first command in June 1990 on the newest ship of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation.
He obtained all his professional certificates of competency from U.K. He continued in the service of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation till November 1996 and thereafter joined Pacific International Lines of Singapore as a Master in December 1996. Capt. Ahad left sea for good in 2001 after eleven years in command and twenty three years at sea and thereafter took up a career in maritime education and training. For sometime in 2001 and 2002, he was Principal of International Institute of Maritime Training and finally he landed up as Vice Principal of Bangladesh Maritime Training Institute on 1st April 2002. Since then, he has been in charge of the Dhaka campus. He was promoted to the rank of Principal of Bangladesh Maritime Training Institute in January 2006. In 2008, he was given the additional charge of International Maritime Academy, the pre-sea wing of BMTI. On 1st January 2012, Capt. Ahad was appointed as commandant of International Maritime Academy.
Capt. Ahad has been responsible for the installation of first set of maritime training simulators for the private sector in Bangladesh.
Capt. Ahad has a number of publications to his name and has been very vocal for the cause of seafaring in Bangladesh, representing the institute and the country at various national, regional and international forum. He has also played a pivotal role in formulating rules and regulations for private sector maritime training institutes in Bangladesh.
Capt. Zaki Ahad is a Fellow of the Nautical Institute of UK. He is married and is blessed with two sons.
CAPT. SUBRATA KUMAR SAHA
DEPUTY COMMANDANT
After completing higher secondary from Mirzapur Cadet College, Subrata Kumar Saha joined Marine academy Chittagong in 1990 in 26th batch. After successful completion of two years pre-sea training, he joined Orient Ship Management Hongkong as deck cadet in 1992. His training was completed in various specialized ships like Timber carrier and in OBO.
He started his career as deck officer in Dilmun Shipping, a British owned chemical tanker fleet. Both Oil and Chemical were the products carried by the fleet. There he worked until 2001. He is one of the pioneer Bangladeshi officer, joined in chemical fleet. Then he joined UNIX Line, Singapore, one of the biggest chemical tanker fleet in the world, as additional Chief Officer. He worked in Unix Line with great devotion and gradually was promoted to Master.
He has vast experience of handling different grades of oil/chemical cargoes. He has total18 years of sea experience out of which almost 15 years in chemical tankers. He has done On Job training(OJT) in Unix Line Office in Singapore. There he acted as boarding superintendent and visited ships, observed various critical cargo related activities like loading, unloading and tank cleaning. He also has experience of taking over new vessel from shipyard.
Having keen interest in teaching, he started his career as nautical instructor in private marine academies in Bangladesh. He Joined International Marine Academy in 2015 as Nautical Instructor and has a vision to share his tanker experience with the next generation of tanker seafarers.
He is permanently residing in uttara with his family. He is blessed with two daughters.
CH.ENG. MD. ABDULLAHEL KAFEE
CHIEF OF
ENGINEERING STUDIES
I passed HSC from Mirzapur Cadet College in 1983. Thereafter I have completed my two years of professional education in Marine Academy as 20th batch cadet.
I have joined BSC as engine cadet in 1985. I have completed the required sea service and passed my Class 2 Marine Engineer examination in 1990 from The Republic of Ireland.
I joined Barber Ship Management (BSM is one of the best known ship management in the world), as Third Engineer after obtaining the Class 2 CoC.
In 1997, I obtained my Class 1 Marine Engineer certificate from UK. Soon after that I was promoted to Chief Engineer in BSM. I sailed for nearly five years as Chief Engineer in various types of vessels, including PCC, container career, and Tankers. In the later part of my career at sea I sailed on Chemical tankers under Haque and Sons management.
In 2006 I have joined BMTI as an engineer instructor and worked with IMA as well. In between I have sailed on various ships as ChiefEngineer for special requirement of my present employers.
Presently I am working as Chief of Engineering Studies in IMA and apart from teaching in IMA and BMTI also involved in setting up theWorkshop facilities at IMA premises.

MONIRUZZAM
NAUTICAL INSTRUCTOR
Captain Mohd Moniruzzaman, Master Mariner (Singapore), joined International Maritime Academy (IMA) as Nautical Instructor in September 2014 after a 20 years of active and glorious sea carrier in various world’s leading Companies. His vast sailing experience mainly comprises of – seven (07) years as a Master in world’s leading company V.ships in Chemical Tankers. He is also having vast experiences in working on board crude oil tankers (including ULCCs), petroleum product tankers, container vessels and general cargo vessels.
He is having vast professional experiences / skills in sailing on boards worldwide trading vessel’s which comprises of USCG COC & EPA inspections, Canadian Transport Agency’s inspections, AMSA inspections, PSC inspections under various MOUs and world’s biggest oil major companies inspections ( e.g. Shell, BP, etc – including CDI ). He’s also having vast experiences in preparing vessels for ISM internal / external audits, ISPS internal / external audits, various flag states inspections as well as various classifications inspections for annual / intermediate / renewal surveys ( including dry docking experiences in various DD ). He is also having good experiences in sailing in High Risk Areas ( HRA ) like Gulf of Aden ( GoA ).
Capt. Mohd Moniruzzaman is an ex-cadet of Bangladesh Marine Academy Chittagong (28th Batch). He has completed graduation (B.sc in Maritime Science) from National University, Bangladesh in 1994. He completed his Master exam (Deck Officer, Class 1 COC) from MPA, Singapore in January 2006 with an award of AMT (Advance Diploma) in Maritime Transportations. He has also attended various specialized courses during his sea service period to promote / upgrade to quality of his practical skills at sea.
Capt Mohd Moniruzzaman is presently residing at Mirpur, Dhaka. He is from a noble Muslim family, married since 2003 and is blessed with one son and one daughter.

MONOWARUL HAKIM
SR. ENGN. INSTRUCTOR
A graduate from 26th Batch of Bangladesh Marine Academy, Md Monowarul Hakim (Engineer Instructor, IMA) started his sea career in Feb’92. During his twenty-six years of sea career he has served in BSC, Star Ship management Miami, Anglo eastern Group Hong Kong and Tokyo Marine/ MOL Chemical tankers in their Gen Cargo, Bulk, Ro-Ro, Product Tanker, OBO and Chemical Tanker fleet in Handymax, Panamax and Cape sized vessels.
He has obtained Class I Motor Certificate of competency in 2002 from MPA Singapore and served in Tokyo Marine/MOL Chemical Tanker Fleet as Chief Engineer officer from Dec’06 till Dec’17. He has also worked as visiting lecturer inBMTI and IMA - twowell reputed private maritime institutes of Bangladesh.
He has joined International maritime Academy Bangladesh in Feb’18 and serving as Sr. Engineer Instructor till date.
CAPT. JAHANGIR MAHBUB RAKIB
NAUTICAL INSTRUCTOR
After 18 years of active sea service, Captain Jahangir Mahmud Rakib, Master Mariner (U.K.), AFNI, joined International Maritime Academy as Nautical Instructor on 1st of March 2010.
He passed H.S.C from Notre Dame Collage Dhaka in 1989 and joined Marine Academy, Chittagong as a Nautical Cadet of 26th Batch (Academy Number 1336). He passed out from Marine Academy in the year 1992. The same year he joined at sea and started his sea-going career with Bangladesh Shipping Corporation as a Deck Cadet. He served in Bangladesh Shipping Corporation until 1995. From 1995 to 2010 he served in Pacific International Lines (Pte) Ltd. Singapore in various officer ranks. He obtained Master command in the year 2006 and after serving for 5 years as Master quit sea in the year 2010. He obtained all his professional certificates of competency from MCA, U.K.
Capt. Rakib served most of his sea carrier including entire 1st mate and Command periods in Container vessels. He also served in General Cargo vessel and Tanker for short period. As Master, he took the delivery of last vessel in his sea carrier from Dalian Shipyard, China in 2009.
Capt. Jahangir Mahmud Rakib is one of the Founders and Directors of Uttara Crescent Hospital and Uttara Crescent Diagnostic and Consultation Centre. He is an active member of the Board of Directors and engaged in operation and management of these renowned Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
In 2017, he obtained his Executive Masters in Business Administration (EMBA) degree with distinction and Gold Medal from American International University Bangladesh. Capt. Rakib has been promoted to the rank of Vice Principal of Bangladesh Maritime Training Institute on 01 January 2018.
Capt. Jahangir Mahmud Rakib dreams that Bangladeshi sailors will lead the entire sailor community of the world. Currently he is serving in Bangladesh Maritime Training Institute as Vice Principal.
He is happily married since 1999 and is blessed with a son and a daughter.

KAMAL HOSSAIN
SR. ENGN. INSTRUCTOR
Chief Engineer Mohammad Kamal Hossain has about 16 years of experience in serving on board merchant vessels of different category such as General Cargo, Container carrier, Bulk Carrier and Oil Tanker under national and international flags. He passed HSC from Dhaka College and then admitted Bangladesh Marine Academy (30th batch) in 1994 as an Engine Cadet. He achieved extra first class in Marine Engineering (phase I) and nominated as the best engine cadet which was awarded by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation. Along with maritime education, he received BSc (pass) degree from National University in 1995 and got 1st class. He achieved Chief Engineer Certificate from Department of Shipping, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2006.
He contributed maximum of his sea life in Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) since 1996 till 2008. After leaving BSC, he joined Private Shipping Company as Chief Engineer. He served as Chief Engineer in NYK Shipping Lines also and achieved working experience with the latest model large engine. He has the experience of executing In Water Survey/dry-docking as Chief Engineer. During his tenure in sea service, he faced AMSA & other PSC/Safety inspections as well.
After leaving sea, he joined Shipyard (Ananda Shipyard & Slipways Ltd.-ASSL, Meghnaghat, Narayangonj) as Deputy General Manager in 2011. He contributed himself in outfitting, installation, commissioning and preparation of ships machinery and equipment’s alone & with the service engineers for survey by the Classification Societies. He took part in the successful sea trials of two ocean going vessels built by ASSL in 2012 which included Generator load bank test and inclining experiments also.
With the sea and shipyard experience, he started his career in Maritime Education and Training sector and joined as Lecturer in Cambridge Maritime College-CMC in 2013. He played a vital role in preparing Quality Management System (QMS) Manual, implementing and finally conducting the ISO 9001-2008 certification process by DNV-GL in Quality management system of Cambridge Maritime College and SRPS under MLC 2006 of Crewing agency as required by the administration.
Recently, he has joined in International Maritime Academy-IMA as Engineering Instructor with the intention of sharing his long sea as well as marine related shore experiences among the enthusiastic young cadets, seafarers and ratings.
His native district is Narsingdi and presently he is residing in Mirpur, Dhaka, with his family.

MANWAR KAMAL
SR. ENGN. INSTRUCTOR
Worked as General Manager in a Power Generation Company in Bangladesh named Northern Power Solution. Worked as Deputy Manager (O& M) in Wartsila BD(DBPL Plant of Orion Group). Worked as Chief engineer in Various Foreign Merchant shipping Companies (16+ years). Worked as DGM & Plant Manager in United Group (DEPZ Power Plant) . In Marine Life worked on various types & Various Make Like,Man,B&W, Man-B&W, Sulzer, Mitsubishi Akasaka, Yanmar,
Daihatsu,MAK,Duez,Volvo,SKL Etc of 2 stroke & 4 stroke engines(HFO & LFO based Main & Auxiliary Engines ), Auxiliaries like Pumps, Oil Separators, Fresh Water Generators, Refrigerators& Air Conditioning, Boilers, Air Compressors of Various Makers both Starting & Control Air Compressor, Inert Gas System, Cargo Gears, Automation & Control & all types of Electrical & Electronic Equipment. In power Plants worked on Wartsila, Rolls Royce, MWM & on MTU engines of HFO, LFO & Gas based. Has got hand on experience on Operation & Maintenance & also in decision making roles as in charge of whole Technical department & on power Plants. Worked in X-INDEX Energy as General Manager(O&M). Presently Working as Engineering Faculty member In a company named Haque & Sons ltd in their Bangladesh Maritime Training Institute & International Marine Academy.
