We introduce ourselves as a premier private Maritime Training Academy in Bangladesh, approved by the Director General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of Bangladesh and ISO 9001:2015 compliant by DNV-GL. We have been involved in training marine personnel from 2003 in various safety courses mandatory under the International Maritime Organization and STCW regulations at our sister company Bangladesh Maritime Training Institute. Chairman E.H Chowdhury started “International Maritime Academy”, in 2008 at Pubail Dhaka. The academy currently provides two-year training course for Nautical and Engineering branch of the merchant marine entry level as trainee officers or cadets. PRE-SEA ratings course for support level. The training is fully residential and regimental in nature. Strict disciplinary codes are followed to ensure that our product is dedicated, obedient and submissive. The academy employs world-class professionals as instructors to provide the best education to the trainees.

Mission of International Maritime Academy is to provide quality education that is second to none in the region for all ranks of seafarers. This is enshrined in its motto, “MARITIME LEADERS OF TOMORROW” and achieved through providing the best quality of instructors, facility and updated teaching material to develop skill and knowledge for the successful pursuit of existing and prospective seafaring career at sea.
International Maritime Academy was established in November 2008 has its own permanent campus in a 9 acre land. The training provided by the academy complies with the requirement of International Maritime Organization, the maritime regulatory and specialized organization of the United Nations. The objective of the academy at present is to provide quality training to Bangladeshi seafarers to meet the requirement of the new amended international maritime convention to which Bangladesh is a party.
The academy became the first private maritime academy in Bangladesh to install officially licensed training simulators for Radar, ARPA, Ship Handling, Engine Room Simulator, GMDSS operation, Liquid cargo handling and Engine room operation in December 2002 in its post sea-wing, known as Bangladesh Maritime Training Institute (BMTI). Accommodation facilities have been added in the Pubail campus and today it has accommodation for over 250 students with meal facilities and accommodation.
Currently, along with its sister organization, BMTI, the academy and the institute offers all courses required to serve on most ships. The academy has been audited regularly by the Ministry, Department of Shipping and DNV-GL and no detrimental remarks or non-conformity has ever been raised against it. The academy being owned by the principal maritime manning agency in the country also provides employment to officers who successfully complete their courses at this academy. IMA is the only private academy which has received “A” grading by the Department of Shipping.
This academy is run by highly qualified instructors/professionals with long sea service experience and training skills. Some of the lecturers have higher professional degree from World Maritime University, Sweden. The academy has adequate resources and materials to run a Deck and Engine Cadet Training program. Increased numbers of foreign flag ship owners have shown interest in our academy and they are ready to offer employment through the owning company after completion of their course in this academy.The training will be conducted as per the syllabus approved by the Department of Shipping. On completion of two years training at the academy, the trainees will join as cadets on foreign going vessels managed by M/S Haque and Sons Ltd. in reputed shipping companies based in Norway, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Greece.
